I work 40 hours plus, have a side business, sit on two Board of Directors, log between 8-10 volunteer hours per week, pay my bills on time and don't kick the cat. Four beers per night, sometimes less and don't drink hard alcohol.Sure, I could probably cut back, but all things considered I think I'm managing just fine by myself.

The earths ability to completely circle the sun has in fact motivated me to set some goals for my Craft Beer Hobby in 2018:

Get at least past the 1/2 way mark of the top 250.

Get out to more new breweries. I only visit 5 breweries that I had not visited before in 2017, which is a new low for me. Need to get back on track in 2018 and started checking off some of the breweries that are on my Need to Visit List.

Hey sorry, was just messing around. Guess it was a bad idea.

No worries. I kind of figured that. It's a beer website, I suppose we all could fit into some definition of heavy drinkers.

@KBS may be messing. But can be hard to tell sometimes. For a beer website there’s a surprisingly high number of members that are puritanical mofos

I want to accrue far less large format bottles this year. If a big must-have stout I want only comes in 22oz/750mL I will not buy more than one. But if it's in 4 packs or 12oz singles I'll continue to stock up. As someone who does most of their drinking at home, solo, and on work nights, large format bottles just do not work for me anymore. These days I'm even reluctant to piss away a Friday or Saturday night solo-doming a bomber. I'm glad to see some breweries move in this direction with their big BA releases such as Revolution's Deep Wood cans and Ballast Point's recent BA Victory at Sea 4 packs.

I was planning to cut way back during 2018, but the coming glut of IPA's resulting from everybody "moving on" has me seriously reconsidering that plan. Just go ahead and "move on" past that King Sue and Hopslam, y'all. Nothing to see here.

Especially when we start getting king sue cans. I'm hoping the batches are big enough to make it a regular in the rotation.

How do you feel about the brewers who have moved beers from 22-oz bottles to 4-packs at a lower price per ounce?

I honestly really only have one, that I had thought about off and on over the last few months. Now, while a beer fridge is a blessing, it can be a curse. I don't throw parties at my house, my wife drinks wine, and I am not a retail merchant. The beer fridge does not have to be well stocked at all times.

I normally don't do resolutions, but I think I'm going to try to do two specific things to cut my beer chasing tendencies a bit...

    1) Drink more shelf IPA's. I don't really need to go out of my way to buy a $12 bomber/$16 4-pack, and I'm never going to buy just one at a brewery. Pipeworks and Half Acre make more than acceptable stuff. I used to enjoy Stone releases and Todd the Axeman a lot too (I know the latter isn't cheaper).

    2) Skip the Bourbon County release(s). It's a lot of BS for not a lot of return. Plus BCBS and Barleywine are everywhere and it's not too hard to trade for coffee. I went to the Taproom after my lines this year, I'll probably sleep in and go straight there in November and try to trade for anything that blows my mind.

Same here, It doesn't need to be WELL stocked, but it should always be minimally stocked at all times.

I believe I'll skip the KBS and possibly BCBS releases in 2018 since at the rate I'm going, I'll have some of each left when they hit again. Same for BA Fidy which has not hit here yet.

    I have three resolutions:
1- brew better beer by delving deeper into pH and water chemistry, etc.
2- brew more unique beers, things that I've avoided like gruit, NE IPAs, and oak aged beers.
3- pay more attention to all of the local breweries that have sprung up around me.

Do you have John Palmer's new Water book?
Will you be going the barrel route or just age the beer on oak (e.g., oak cubes)?
    Me too!!

    Cheers!

Walking home from my best friend's house New Year's Eve, in the deepening cold, I resolved several things. Problem is, I can't remember. Damn shit was profound!
