    (old) News:

"You guys like cans. A lot.

...we're pumped to announce we're changing the packaging format for all of our hop forward beers (and recently extended to some other styles too) from 750ml / 25.4oz bottles into 16oz cans!

Batch sizes and case counts will go up as we get our legs under us.

Cans will be available at both breweries, but please note we won't be able to split the cases evenly on the same day as packaging for logistical reasons (so fewer cases available in Boston vs Canton on day of packaging). Thanks on behalf of the whole trillium team for your support to help us achieve this incredible milestone."

First two can releases in June (end of the month) were Congress Street and Melcher Street. Cans come in four packs but you can buy individual cans, if you like. Yes, the date is on the bottom.

    Trillium Can Spreadsheet:

@jimmyfausto created this awesome spreadsheet. In his own words:

I've been maintaining a spreadsheet for all Trillium can release information, including sell out times, hours/days available, and other notes. I know availability is a frequent topic here, especially for travelers and newbies, so I've made the google doc viewable by the below link. (Let me know if people have trouble accessing it)

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mmBOt3Bia-mo5gef5A7nENRkFSBx7NCVaSXbH9RYJ78/edit?usp=sharing

All sell out information is from Trillium's social media, unless noted. There have been rare occasions where they didn't post sell out times for a few beers, in which case I guessed the hours.

    New Hours at Canton:

"OUR NEW HOURS RESOLUTION It's a new year! Time for a Team Trillium resolution: make Canton more awesome. We've always felt like party poopers shouting "last call" every Friday night, so starting tomorrow (1/6) Canton will now be open until 10PM on Fridays & Saturdays! And EVERY Sunday from 12PM-5PM! Cheers to more beer, more food trucks, and more fun in 2017."

Please note that LAST CALL is 30 minutes before closing! This applies to Canton site only.

Reminder: Fort Point site does NOT offer any on premises drinking.

Have you guys ever experience a ton of sediment (floaties?) in Trillium cans? I've never had Trillium beers before, but was gifted a 4-pack for Christmas. My first can (Vicinity) had a good amount of sediment but my second (Heavy Mettle) had a ton, more than I've ever seen in a beer before.

Is this normal? The beers tasted amazing, just not used this level of sediment.

What were the dates on the cans?

Very late November. Don't remember the exact dates. I want to say 11/21 and 11/28? I remember thinking how they were only slightly over a month old.

I've never had a ton of sediment (read sludge), but I have noticed that older cans can develop some floats as things fall out of suspension. Not sure what the factors are that cause it but it's nothing bad unless you're trying to get a good photo of the beer.

I haven't paid much attention to it lately, but I recall a good amount of sediment back before they started canning. First time I had ever seen that. Never seemed to detract from the beer, at least for me.

I've noticed Trillium having floaties, but I've never thought it affected the taste either. I think Focal Banger has consistently a lot more of them than anything I've ever seen from Trillium, so it must not affect the taste much at all!

Going to agree with what's been said here, there are floaties after some time, but I've never had them be a detriment to the beer before, and never in large quantities. I can imagine both Vicinity and Heavy Mettle would tend to be more floatie heavy vs a non DDH street

Interesting. Definitely agree that it doesn't detract from the taste whatsoever, but there is no doubt something visually unappealing about having a yellowish sludge at the bottom of your glass, especially on this level. Do you guys roll your cans before pouring them? I picked up the habit from Grimm cans and I'm wondering if I loosened up the sediment by doing that.

Was curious if it was common with them, mostly because it was there in two different beers from two different batches. Oh well, no big deal.

It's hit or miss in my experience. I don't roll my cans because it definitely stirs up any sediment in there, but people who think that the sediment contains more flavor will tell you to keep doing it.

Grimm actually says something like "Roll this can to resuspend sediment" on their cans (or at least it was on the last canned IPA I had from them). I guess it's the new "drink from the can".

For the hoppy stuff from Trillium, I definitely try to avoid drinking or resuspending the sediment. Particularly with fresh DDH beers, I have found the sediment to increase the bitterness and throat burn. I actually try to pour out the whole can at once and stop before too many solids come through.

A quick message from JC on 'beer floaties' from Nov. 2016:

"It's not yeast. We use a flocculant strain and cell counts are confirmed to be very low prior to packaging. The sediment you're seeing sometimes is protein and hop resins. We do not rack over excessive trub to the brite, but I can understand why you might assume that.

If anyone has any concerns, I absolutely welcome you to drop us a line...not trying to discourage discussion here, i think its an awesome way to have a discussion. Im just hoping to cut back a little misinformation (ie there's a lot of yeast in our finished beer) that can sometimes get a wind behind it."

In my experience, floaties are rare in a Trillium beer. Artaic (now Mosaic Cutting Tiles) had a ton for a couple runs; can't remember any others having it. Focal Banger and Epiphany are two of the worst offenders I can remember. Even my last can of Fort Hill Fresh Pick had a bunch of floaties.

Much more frequently in Trillium beers I get 1/2-1 tsp of hoppy sludge, especially if the beer has been sitting for a while. That stuff is ultra nasty to consume directly, but it does not affect the rest of the poured beer (it settles to the bottom of the glass very quickly).

Due to perceived un-evenness in hazyness and hoppiness in many different brewery's beers, I've been doing a quick inversion or two prior to opening all my beers the past year or so. It's not an aggressive shake to re-integrate everything, but it's enough to mix most things back together.

@jimmyfausto That spreadsheet is awesome, thanks for taking the time and energy to keep it up to date. I am going to be in Boston on Wednesday and praying DDH Melcher Street is still available, that spreadsheet is an awesome tool!

Looks like Fort Point is doing alright. And Pom Pom is back which seems really quick. I sort of want to grab a couple of cans to compare it with the first batch.

JC said on a FB group that the current FP spot only took on minimal water in the boiler room. He didn't seem very concerned about it.

The Future FP spot took on no water, which is obviously a bigger relief in the middle of construction.

Kind of surprising given the video I saw of Farnsworth St on twitter. Looked like a river.
