With it being on social media and for everyone to see though, it could be perceived differently by those of us not in the know.

Thank you for clarifying though, I was worried it was going to escalate into a thunderdome situation. Two craft beer store owners enter, one crafter beer store owner leaves...

We all know if a Thunderdome situation were to happen, it would resemble the scene in Return of the Jedi where the Rancor eats Jubnuk before Luke deafats it. I, of course would not be the Rancor or Luke.

Check the NEWS section on Surly's website for BEER RELEASE postings. In 2017, Surly posted the release date information in early February, which gave about one week advance notice.

On their Instagram they showed a pic of them putting Darkness in barrels on Dec 4th.

So three month's in barrels = early February bottling. Late February release?

Bummer. That's not much time in barrels.

A longer time in barrels doesn’t necessarily mean more BA taste. Avery often uses barrels only a few months for example.

How long were the '15 in barrels? Had the perfect amount of barrel. '16 was much lighter and it sounded like it was in the barrels much less than '15. Granted the barrels where from different sources, but the notes itself were not as intense. Sounds like this one is spending about the same amount of time as '16.

I read or was told at surly that it was only in for 3 months. I posted it last year when everyone was bitching that 16 was “only” aged 3 months and was nothing in comparison - some agreed w my post, but most just continued to bitch. No one showed any evidence that 15 was aged longer, but who really knows. You’d think they’d keep it the same after the success they had the first go around.

It's more about how many uses the barrel has had. I think '15 was all first use barrels.
