The random variants weren't announced until after tickets went on sale.

 

Had group B the last 2 years and I think that's perfect for me. I would probably panic about getting there and getting through the line early enough for A, and if I have to wait for C-E I'll probably be way too drunk.

 

We should take bets on what this years "wrench" will be after we all buy tickets that causes outrage, extreme joy, and those that respond with "just enjoy the festival."

We go back to drink/food vouchers included in the package again.

I personally wish they'd go back to the vouchers, just not force people to buy them in the ticket to get in.

 

I like the no vouchers--I think it cut down on the lines everywhere. When there were vouchers, so many people were just trying to "get theirs"...even though I gave my vouchers away, a lot of people felt like they were getting ripped off if they didn't use 100% of theirs.

 

I've had the opposite experience - I feel like things were way more efficient when not dealing with cash at every line. One problem I saw was people giving away their vouchers they didn't use, but if you take away the required component of the vouchers, that's nobodies fault but their own for buying too many.

 

This thread inspired me to check-in on both ‘16 and ‘17 over the weekend.

To quickly sum it up, ‘17 is better and way more drinkable... but ‘16 is aging well and drinks like a rich, boozy dessert.

Also, if anyone is inclined to cook with beer, the rest of the ‘16 helped make some bomb ass brownies. Might have to whip up a few batches for DLD this year.

PS fuck vouchers.

 

Had a '15 on NYE, was not happy with it, seemed a bit stale and astringent, kind of like some bad woody hops got in there.

 

It takes a lot of willpower to be in a later group as people are shoving great beer after great beer in your face while sharing. It's so tempting to dome that last 3oz of 14% ba stout to get to the next one & the next one after that.
I recommend small pours & saying no once in a while if you want to make it through the day

 

I was actually reasonably sober last year because I made a conscious decision not to drink in the pickup line, then I had a bit of a lull dropping my stuff at the car and finding my group again. I doubt it goes that well most years though (2016 as a prime example).

Plus my friend from Denver that's getting to be as bad as me is tentatively planning to go. If that happens, Group E would be a disaster and there's a good chance at least one of us would be internet famous.

 

Unless “games of skill” are used to determine variants, I’ll be disappointed.

The only way you can possibly get a Handjee is to wear those spandex outfits. They could air it on YouTube and people would watch how dumb other people are. If you're worried about people seeing what a drunk idiot you look like...it's vintages for you!
