Happy NBS. Have to admit to being on an AAL run lately, just bored. Had a beer given to me by a co worker , so I’m drinking a Brooklyn Brewery Black Chocolate Stout. Watching football of course, and I love Brooklyn’s beers.

Beautiful pour, nice creamy head looks inviting on a cold day. I don’t get anything special on the nose, but that’s me I suppose. A bit toasty, dark chocolate, it’s not a sweet beer, and it’s not harsh. A nice bitter bite on the finish, drinks like your eating a 70% cacao bar. I’d like a six of this and at 10% it’s manageable and not a bit boozy. Really liking this beer , Id easily buy this one.

Good Afternoon everyone thanks @cjgiant for getting us started and I have to say one of my resolutions this year is to get back in shape. I have added about 30 pounds in the last year or so due to drinking beer and not working out. My biggest problem or excuse is since moving I lost the gym partner I had for 20 years, it sucks but I gotta find a way to get myself back into it.

My first NBS entry is a beer I got from @DrivinNCryin and is Parrish Brewing Nova Vert, an IPA clocking in at 6.8% it balances juicy tropical fruit and bitter grapefruit very well to create a well balanced easy drinking IPA. I would say I put this a little below the only other beer I hae had from the DDH Ghost in the Machine which was excellent. Cheers everyone have a great Sunday and should be back one more time!!!

Appearance 4.25- Pours bright yellow with big light fluffy white head that dissipates to about a one inch cap and stays. Spotty lacing all around the glass.

Aroma 4.5- Juicy peach and mango mixed with bitter orange peel and grapefruit. Aroma is fresh and bitter at the same time.

Taste 4.5 - Light tropical fruit some pineapple and tangerine along with grapefruit and orange peel. It is more sweet juice forward and the bitterness come in toward the end. Flavors are all well balanced

Feel 4.5 - Medium bodied slightly creamy feel with a slightly dry finish.

Overall 4.49 - A really well done IPA, great flavor balance very nice feel.

My 2nd new beer today also courtesy of @Dragginballs76 ! Many thanks my man!

    This one is quite nice.

Pours a dark apricot with a finger plus of fluffy off white head.

Aroma is slightly smoky, tart grapefruit and other tart citrus fruit.

Taste is more complex than the aroma. Tart grapefruit and lime up front, very slight smoke mid palette and a tease of tequila at the end.

Feel is crisp and ever so slightly dry. Carb is moderate to high and kind of dances in ones mouth.

Overall a very interesting site that is certainly worth trying if one should get the chance.

L - 1-finger white head atop a translucent orange body.

S - citrus hops. Very inviting.

T - citrus to start. Bready middle, as malts take over. Rather sweet. Booze comes through on the finish.

    F - medium-light body. Higher carbed.

O - rather underwhelmed by this. The price is right, but it’s not hoppy enough to justify the “ddh” tag. Still a malty ipa.

Sipping on some local sour to start the NBS. I have a few ideas on where I'll go from here, but we'll figure that out after this 22oz.

    BKS's Vacation Time: Cucumber Margarita.

Pours a foggy pale yellow with no head formation besides a little white fizz that fizzles out quickly. Aroma is a huge dose of cucumber, which comes off as refreshing and natural - not artificial. A hint of margarita is behind. There is an overall slight tartness to the aroma. Flavor profile is cucumber heavy. Margarita and lime are a little heavier in the flavor profile than the aroma. The lime has a distinct lactic sourness to it. Mouth feel is smooth with a slight fizz. It has a medium thickness. Overall, a stand-up refreshing sour. Well crafted and smoothed out.

    Score: 4.25 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 4.25 | 4.5 | BA Score: 4.46 | rDev: N/A

BKS is making waves in the area for their hoppy productions, but I think their true strength is their sours. While they're light sours, nothing heavy like Side Project or Casey's, they're incredibly well smoothed out and refreshing. Between BKS and Crane, KC is developing a strong sour scene.

    The summary:

Aromas of black tea, honeydew/melon, white cracker/biscuit malts, herbal quality and some grassy hops. All of this seemed to meld on into the flavor sweetly with a nice emphasis on the black tea and honeydew/melon. Slight stickiness and white pepper in the aftertaste. Medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it that lead to a nice crisp and smooth black tea to melon sweet sort of finish. Of course, I'd have this again.

I think I may up my Untappd to 4.5. I’m really enjoying it and I think the tequila bite at the end finishes it off quite perfectly. Cheers brother!

Ok, this is almost certainly one off, as you will see by the ingredient list, and as such I refrained from adding it. I am seriously breaking my own rule as laid out in my opening post - but unless you’re stopping by Adroit Theory in the next week or two, you won’t miss my not posting an official review.

I wouldn’t even post it here, but this is so good, I wanted to give some recognition. This is Death of Cthulhu, <<deep breath>> with Vietnamese coffee, toasted coconut, amaretto soaked almonds, and bourbon barrel infused maple syrup. <<gasp>>

Cosmos-like lacing, with bands and individual stars. Just short of obelisk black and you see the minimal head on this 12% offering.

Nose is just a dive into a deep roast coffee ocean. Be careful of the chocolate espresso rocks, though. There’s a sweetness that I wouldn’t have said maple syrup (or amaretto), but can imagine it is, though I’m really not getting distinct bourbon or coconut.

Ok, who cares what ingredients I could in theory try to pick out. This is f*cking awesome, espresso, chocolate, a little nuttiness that could be almond, a light maple syrupy sweetness, and maybe a hint of coconut and bourbon smoke... maybe.

Ok, yes, a little sweet, but I lucked into a BCBS before coming here, and I might (today) like that about the same as this. BCBS has a little tighter build to it, and had heat where this has sweet. Been a good afternoon, even if “forced” to go shopping with the GF.

I'm terrible with resolutions, so none for me. Cold and snowy here, hiked a few miles with the pooch, now a new beer!
Arbor Brewing, Euchre Pils, nice crystal clear gold color, small head that recedes to a cap, light aroma of earthy grains, taste is buttery, lemon, spicy herbs, a healthy dose of spicy hops, slightly bitter and crisp finish. Overall a solid Pils!

What's up, BA. I hung curtains today in our bedroom. Only four holes to patch this time. Time for football and beer.

Oh, Craig, I don't make New Year's resolutions. I like to think I make my changes when they're needed. But that's probably not true...

    Destihl Brewing
    The Duke of Normington
    Imperial Saison

Pours a clear orangish-amber color with a two-finger head that disappated quickly leaving thick lacing

The smell is floral, peppery, and canned pears with light malts.

The taste is apple, floral, pear, and grapes, with a slight peppery finish.

The mouthfeel is low carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall this is good but there's not a lot of that earthiness I expect on a saison.

I have no new year’s resolutions as I am incapable of following through...

Cigar City Brewing’s “Cafe con Leche (2017)”, a sweet stout w/coffee & cacao nibs:

Pours black with ruby edges; thick tan head; long cap retention; moderate heavy lacing. 4.5

Strong coffee nose upon popping the cap; cacao on the initial sniff too. 4.0

Flavors of coffee, cream, milk chocolate, sweet milky toasted brown bread middle; no adjunct or artificial flavors; coffee, milk toast and cocoa finish. 4.25

Medium lite, creamy feel; moderate minus carbonation; milky tongue coating; thin - but hey, it’s a milk stout. 4.25

Overall, a flavorful lite easy drinking milk stout; nothing “amazing” here, just a super solid beer with plenty of coffee - chocolate to make it fun and drinkable. 4.25

    Nice win Jags!

Answering about resolutions: Try to get my House sold up in Oklahoma & get to review #5000, all else is minor.

Bells' Whiskey Barrel Aged Cherry Stout, good, but was hoping for better. 4.03 overall

Pours an effervescent mahogany with a pinky of caramel colored head. Viscious look, some lacing & zero head retention

S: Bourbon & cherries, some smokiness once warm

T: Follows the nose, some oaky dryness & a touch of figs up front. Boozey cherries and oaky dryness as this warms , a little chocolate & vanilla, some sweet cherry as well. Finishes dry, a touch boozey with cherry & just a little fig & leafy hops

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation & warming

Pretty good, but they do better, I will pass on this one again at + $6 a 12 oz bottle

Next up is something that is a true treat. A style that gets little attention but undeservedly so. The Vienna Lager. My NBS #2 on the day.

    pFriem Family Brewers
    Vienna Lager

When I see a pFriem bottle, I instantly get excited. It's simplistic style is stunningly beautiful, and it's contents are almost always true to that sentiment.

Vienna Lager pours the most beautiful shade of amber. The clarity is perfect, and it's rocky white head impressive. It eventually descends but manages to cover just the surface, while little spots of bubbles plaster the glass.

Freshly baked biscuits, cut grass, and floral hops rise from the glass. A light amount of sweet caramel puts a smile on my face as I can smell true craftsmanship and love was put into this beer.

Simply wonderful. Warm, caramel drizzled liquid biscuits swarm the taste buds. A light, nutmeg like spice, and floral hop note brings it to perfect balance.

In one word, it feels 'elegant'. It is impressively clean, perfectly balanced, and gives the softest body from it's moderate carbonation.

This is masterfully created. A beer that I would gladly drink all day, everyday and probably never get bored of. This pays respect to the classic style. Prost!

After my official review, I gave Vienna Lager a rating of4.54 with an rDev of +13.5%. And I'll stick by that.
