You're complaining about people discussing beer on a beer forum.. What do you think a beer internet forum is for, if not to discuss beer?

Yes, but he's making some pretty good points about the silliness of the language . . . really, "yeast bite"?

*shrug* I don't make up the terminology. I've seen it referenced here and on Youtube (I believe Darwin mentioned it during the Never & Again review. That's certainly the same issues I get from ASB beers.)

Maybe burn would be a more accurate word to use. Bite is something more relevant to bitterness that's enjoyable in beers. I know what you're referring to though.

It could almost be Yeast Burn. But bite does describe it as well. A slightly acidic aftertaste.

I had this problem with Moonraker "Atomicbetty" DIPA that was released on 1/5/18. Head brewer Zach Fraser said in several posts in local Sacramento Groups that it was "Green". Let it sit for a week. Tried a can after 10 days on 1/15/18, a little better. I am saving the other 2 cans for another week out.

I've always associated "green" descriptors with the grassy and herbal flavors/aromas that are sometimes dominant in very fresh & hoppy beers, interesting that it's used to describe yeast driven flavors.

It's being used two different ways because usually it's used to describe clear beers and now it's also being used to describe not quite at it's peak for hazy beers.

Didn't realize writing 5 sentences about a release was really freaking out or reaching for the pitchforks.

I was surprised because I prefer galaxy hops to enigma hops generally. Also Alvarado even puts yeast driven ipas on some of their cans, which are super yeasty, and that makes some bitter to the point that it has a burn or bite...

Not really as ridiculous as you make it seem, in my opinion.

i've referred to this taste/sensation as "hop burn" before...is the consesus that this is indeed from the yeast rather than the hops?

it was really strong in a batch of brouwerij west supercollider a few months back, but smoothed out completely in a week or two

I was just referring to the collective negativity towards the releases. Not just one comment.

big nose and flavor, reminds me of fw pepe.
definitly has that yeast bite that @thuey mentioned. huge hopes and definitly juicy.
it’s funny as soon as he mentioned it i knew exactly what he was talking about, first experienced it from sp shared ipas had it really bad. i get it here but it’s very tolerable, i can see it being off putting if your sensitive to it tho.

it’s like a mineral/grainy burn in the back of your throat, makes you want to clear your throat.

regardless i find this one banging! tomorrow will be the dobis variations

Ok I’m glad you guys have confirmed this is a real thing...I’ve noticed this exact thing before with some Alvarado stuff (probably the yeast driven stuff mentioned above) and def some fieldwork stuff. I tried to describe it to my buddy who’s a lot more into ipas than I am but couldn’t describe it well and he looked at me like I was crazy. Of course I was drunk when trying to describe it to him but the “mineral/grainy burn in the back of your throat, makes you want to clear your throat” description that @KevSal used to describe it is a perfect description.

    What's a "sp shared ipa"?

To be honest I've only gotten this defect from ASB beers, and now 2 Cellarmaker beers (that Monk's Kettle collab from a month ago, and this Big Lots collab).

I don't get it from what Tree House, Trillium, Bissell Brothers, Great Notion, Monkish or Moonraker beers I've had. So I find it something flawed in how ASB makes beer specifically.

    Flaw? no... Different? Yes.

Don't understand why a brewery that wants to make overly yeasty IPAs is making defective ipas... it's a unique take on an overly done style at best.

Wait, so a scratchy peppery attack on the back of the throat is now a feature? I swear you brewery apologists are ridiculous.

At least @KevSal was being forthright when he says he loves the beer in spite of that issue.

yea sorry about that, Side Project’s Shared line of beers, which includes a bunch of canned ipas. all the ones i tired had that really bad. hopefully they are making better ipas now, but those first few cans were bad, like offshoot bad

its almost like not everyone gets that scratchiness, i’m wondering is it an allergy we have to a particular yeast strain they are using? regardless there’s definitly a degree of sensitivity to it thats different from person to person
