Dark Lord (2018)

It can't be much less than 12 months...accounting for bottling. But even regular is bottled ahead of time. There seems to be a consensus that last year's DL is this year's variant, and I don't see why they would be leaving beer in tanks for much longer than they have to, as long as they have barrels to fill. I always get a good amount of barrel character from their BA beers (just had a Woodford Behemoth that blew away the base) so I think their aging is really on point.

 

What I'm hoping happens in 2018: "Due to yield issues with this year's Dark Lord we have had to reduce some allocations from 4 DLs and 1 variant to 2 DLs and 3 variants. We apologize for the inconvenience"

 

And someone would even find a way to complain about that if it did ever happen.

 

The flippers would complain that it killed the value of the beer.

 

And in small type "Subject to limited quantities of variants, two vintages can be substituted for each variant."

So you'd have to watch out for the totes with eight bottles

 

As if anyone cares about anything other than that sweet sweet tote bag...

I actually remember some idiot bitching about this on FB when they did the guaranteed variant thing for the first time... I wish I could find that post because it was very amusing but I am not going to waste my time on that, lol

 

So, do we know if Todd the Axeman will have had a hand in this year’s variants?

Those things can barely hold 5 bottles without the handle(s) ripping off.

 

I'm a little disappointed that darklordday.com now reroutes you to 3floyds.com. I enjoyed the 'password' page in the prior years. I'd try a few random passwords to try to get in (which never worked) but it felt a bit like a game until that one time you go to darklordday.com and alas, the page is up.
