I agree. I think Sump is short for "Sump-ting is Missing"

That's a bit vague. Reviews are fine, but too often peppered with flowery language and people looking for nuances that might be lost on most people.

    Why is it great?

    Because it's a good beer.

Sump is a great coffee stout - thick mouthfeel, rich coffee aromas and flavors. However, at $20+ a bottle I don't think its worth it. I can get good coffee stouts for far less.

Great new Avatar. But you have got to stop changing them so quickly. I just got used to the last one.

Ha! I'll go back to the old one soon - just had to go with this one until the super bowl :stuck_out_tongue:

Saw BA Ivan the Terrible on the shelf at downstate Binny's. Not sure if that's something people want. Assume it'll see distro up there.

I passed as my experience with last year's was so bad. You might even invoke the "I" word to describe it - cork almost blew out after uncaged, over-carbed, large and quickly dissipating head, bad metallic taste, no barrel. Just wrong. My friend and I couldn't finish it. So I left it uncorked in the fridge all night. It retained 2 inches of head and was bubbling like a freshly popped bottle of champagne the next day still. Besides, I finally saw VSOD and felt that was a much more prudent investment.

Over in the Mountain forum (my occassional home away from home here in GL) there were a few folks that would agree with us. Apparently Big Sky disagreed with our beer experiences.

It wasn’t soured, but it sure wasn’t right to have a BA stout be a mini gusher. That’s a beer I’ll never buy again

I imagine for Sump time, now. Of course, that joke is a perennial favorite of mine...

Sump is great, but I'll pay for it on draft if I happen to see it. I'm over buying bottles of non-BA beers for $15+ unless it's really something special. I can have just as much fun with Old Rasputin of a Nice DIPA 4-pack/sixer.

This is how I feel as well, but I was actually thinking that I wasn't sure how much Sump hits draft around here. Even though I really enjoyed it the one time I had it (which is rare for a coffee stout that isn't BA), I still may not get it on draft...but there will be plenty of other beer to drink.
