Maybe because Texas market is now receiving distribution. We got a sizable allocation in Austin area no need to run out and grab it it’s easily available at every store.

Is this the first year for Texas to receive Hopslam?

Any South Florida sightings? Haven't been able to track any down, and retailers that I've spoken with seem to be having some trouble as well. Does anybody who lives in an area that falls under the January 15th shipping date know the canning date?

Interesting. Last year was the first year Oregon received a full allocation of hopslam (we weren't on the distribution list this year), and like Austin this year, it was just about everywhere in Portland. There was a lot of pent up interest and demand for the beer, which was a good thing, as the local response was not entirely positive. I was actually hoping it would be distributed in Oregon again this year, as I was curious to see how sales would do after what took place last year (blistering initial sales that gradually tapered off, with few repeat purchases - based on anecdotal information).

I'll be very curious to see how well the beer is received in Texas.

I’ll report back what it looks like in a couple weeks. I only grabbed a six pack myself and have not tried it.

Totally.....I haven't had it yet this year, but I thought the honey was very upfront.....I would even say I picked up the honey just as much as hops! Waiting to try this years...

It seemed to be two fold Jack. Those that were familiar with HS from past experience, felt last year's edition wasn't up to par. Those that hadn't ever tried it before, didn't feel it lived up to the "hype." It was also very much on the expensive side for DIPA's in Oregon, which didn't help.

I'm sure you know how it is. There are a LOT of really good IPA's and DIPA's made in the NW (just as there are where you live), and if someone is going to drop $20 or so for a 6 pack of DIPA (which is a VERY high price out here), the feeling is that it needs to be something really special. The general consensus opinion from last year seemed to be that the 2017 HS wasn't.

I just read this post earlier about my local Retail Beer Distributor:

"Kunda in KOP has some. I read on their Facebook page that it was $24.96 for a six pack."

    25 bucks for a 6-pack of beer!?!:astonished:

    Too rich for my blood.

    Cheers!

Agreed. I'm getting two cans, as I still want to try it, and I was a bit surprised when my trading partner told me the cost was $9.50. He said he bought his 6 packs over at Edgemont, so I assume he had to pay roughly the same price. So with tax, the $9.50 charge makes complete sense. Yowza!

On a positive note, he did say that the NN batch he's sending is really, really good. :sunglasses:

Had a can tonight, completely... meh.

One can was enough. Shared with two others and we all dumped our share to move on to better things.

Have had it the past few years now and always feel the same. I'm done with this one completely going forward.

Sounds about right. In buying Hopslam now, you are paying for what it once was...a unique, groundbreaking beer. It is not that anymore. That is not to suggest the quality has decreased, far from it. It is just that many breweries have produced products that are as good, or at least in the ballpark, and they cost considerably less.

It is simply the way innovation and competition works. Nostalgia and hype (not a pejorative) allow the cost for beers such as Hopslam to remain high.

In a "high priced" state? My local TW in FL is starting to accumulate lots and lots of "mature" beer. This will be an interesting year.
