Chicago Stout Releases (2018)

I really liked sump last year but like everyone wishes, put the damn stuff in barrels for god's sake....and ours.

 

I can say that BA Ivan does not taste like it did last year. The previous time I opened one, I took one sip, it tasted like overly-carbonated sour cherries, and dumped the rest.

This year's tasted like a pretty good BA stout, I just felt that something was missing. It was a bit thin, and I didn't get much chocolate-y flavors, but the barrel presence was there. I wanted to try it again, to give it a second chance, after last year - I wouldn't buy it a third time though.

 

They do a BA Sump, it's pretty damn good.

BA Sump? Yes, only released at Perennial.

By the time you hear about it in Illinois it's too late to get it. If you really want to try it I'd join their society.

For those that missed out on the BA Vlad release and want some it’s popping up at some stores in the burbs. Open Bottle and Prestige is what I’ve seen so far

 

It pops up every once in a while. I know I had it last year at Bad Apple across from Half Acre.

 

I’ve had it at Plank Road Taproom though that was in 2016. Grabbed a bottle last year and loved it (according to my Untappd rating)

 

So, very few people commented on my comment before. For the record, I think sump's great for the style. That said, I still think it's pretty boring.

Does everyone else just have such a fantastic palate that you all have unicorns dancing across your tongue when you drink this? Or...?

 

I will say that I do like Sump a lot. However, it’s a stretch purchasing it at its current price point for my repeated enjoyment.

With that said I still do buy a bottle or two every year simply because I think it makes a really cool extra in a trade or to a rtp that hasn’t had the opportunity to try it yet.

I have not had the opportunity to try it yet . Sadly, we don't see Perennial here.

 

Yeah I don’t feel comfortable saying much about a once a year stout given how tastes change with experiences. But I went from liking in in 16 to really liking it in 17. That’s why I’d be willing to check in this year. Some beers like Darkness and Parabola don’t hold up for me anymore so I can’t say if Sump will til I revisit
