Perception is a funny thing, I feel it's highly over rated.

Goose Island's Sofie. It was one of the first saisons I've had, and I always go back to it. Not too tart, not too funky. Just nice and balanced.

Bell's Oberon @ 3.82. I consider it at least a 4 and representative of a style that's under appreciated imo.

I sort of agree, but have mixed feelings about your examples. Love me some Fullers ESB and Pilsner Urquell, but think London Pride and Spaten Lager are not that good (and it certainly isn't a freshness issue for me).

Your opinion is just as valid as mine, but the only people I know who love that beer are the American military who have been stationed in the Kaiserslautern area. The British military all seem to like Warsteiner, which also happens to be one of the beers available at places like the Falklands where they deploy.

I'd rather have a Bitburger than a Budweiser. And I'm glad the Falkland Islands aren't called The Malvinas Islands. I'd rather have a Warsteiner than a Bitburger also.

Bringing this thread back from the dead in the name of Weyerbacher Tiny!

This stuff is probably one of the slowest moving beers in my area, but it’s so damn tasty and a tremendous year-round offering. Why is everyone sleeping on it??

Called not rating to style. At its worst it’s average and should at least be a 3, but I like it more than that too. Somewhere out there rated to style should be a close to 5 rated aal, why isn’t that so? Because rating to style is very rare.

Pilsner Urquell with an average score in the mid 3s seems crazy underrated to me. That beer is pretty much flawless.

Hey man, if you enjoy like I assume you do, hell yeah! But calling it “flawless” is a lil wild even for. Guy like me that likes the beer. Cheers!

I enjoy them, cheap, available basicly anywhere, easy to drink and I don’t worry about the date codes on them.

    Enjoy

Budweiser is my highest +rDev score (+44.6% 3.37 vs. 2.33).

Below are six recommendations for excellent beers with a lower than expected BA score across a few styles, a few likely penalized for the style itself:

Boon Framboise Brouwerij Boon (4.6 My Score vs. 3.75 BA) Belgian Fruit Lambic
Pony Half Acre Beer Company (4.46 vs. 3.77) German Pilsner
Bud's Corvus Sketchbook Brewing Company (4.28 vs. 3.72) Irish Dry Stout
Blushing Monk Founders Brewing Company (4.82 vs. 4.21) Fruit and Field Beer
Face Melter Hibiscus IPA Burnt City Brewing (4.09 vs. 3.60) American IPA
Unibroue 17 Grand Reserve Unibroue (4.79 vs. 4.29) Belgian Strong Dark Ale

In general, Belgians are generally underrated, and ABV values generally hurt session and other low ABV beers, and generally result in overrated scores for high ABVs (BA stouts, Imperial IPAs/Stouts). Also, beers from "hot" breweries allowing beer scalping/flipping are typically overrated whereas longtime outstanding offerings around for decades (see Beer HOF beers here) are underrated as "shelf turds".

Double double barrel ale? That beer is a stone cold classic. Regular DBA is still a
Superb drinker. Unfiltered DBA even better and something I could drink by the keg.

    In short, I agree

It helps to think of them as a separate beverage (like tea vs coffee)

Just to be sure we're on the same page here, by flawless I mean that there are no unpleasant flavours or aftertaste and that it is an excellent example of the style. I wasn't suggesting it's the world's best beer or anything along those lines, but I do think it's one of the top (perhaps THE top) widely available European pilsners. A score inth low to mid 4s would seem more appropriate to me.
