I've had brand new gaskets not get a good seal when using for homebrewing. I read that if you don't wet the gasket prior to closing the lid, it might not sit right and keep the container sealed. My guess is the grippy rubber material of the gasket can get bunched up, leaving gaps just big enough for gas to escape, if the gasket isn't lubricated to slide evenly down both sides of the rim of the bottle.

Seems like that wouldn't be possible during a growler fill, but you never know. I lost several bottles of homebrew to improper seal the first time I tried using the flip-top bottles.

Thanks for that. Definitely anecdotal small sample size.

Yup. First thought, too. I don't think it's something that most of us can do given our limited resource (i.e no enough money) to do a big enough sample size stretched over a period of several weeks. I think it's something that a growler or crowler producing company could do, to help market their business.

I probably had 3-400 Tired Hands growlers (1L swing top) passed through my hands via trade, swap, drink, etc. and only had 3 that went completely flat. It wasn't until after it happened a couple of time that I started to make sure the cap and seal are on properly.

I've been to the Canton, Mass, Trillium location maybe five times. The wait in line ranged between 0 and 15 minutes.

I'm sure there are times when a new release comes out that it's much longer, but they have beer for sale any time they're open, so I've just gone when convenient for me.

The times I went, they always had many options to choose from; the prices were a little better than Tired Hands; and the quality was, IMO, a notch above Tired Hands, too.

That location doesn't have a restaurant. A lot of the space is geared toward take-out sales, with multiple registers and often multiple people working each one to speed things along. There's also a taproom and usually a food truck outside.

    Here's what they have now:

I have never waited in line at Trillium for more than 15 minutes like the other poster mentioned, it's awesome and I can't wait for that to eventually be the case at Tired Hands. While you can go after the initial release or for when it moves behind the bar it's still pretty much gone within 24 hours, not so at Trillium.

Like everyone else already said, no not really. They're pretty efficient. I can't speak for the original Boston location but their new Canton facility is always a breeze and it's great you don't have to drive all the way into the city. It's a bit busier on weekends typically but that's to be expected. They're also good with their beer supply the beer usually lasts quite a while. When I went last month I got the usual DDH/NEIPA stuff but I also was able to get some leftovers from the Supersoak release (I got Blackberry). They always seem to have a good variety of styles as well (I mean, just look) If Tired Hands were to follow a similar model it would be amazing.

There is typically no line / no wait at the Tired Hands general store. Usually there is at least 5 different bottles (all top notch) and 2 canned options including Hop Hands. Once Alien Church is stocked (its canned now every two weeks) that too will reside in the cooler there. As for yesterdays release, I waited less than 5 minutes in line, and I arrived at 5:15pm.

You can complain about the prices (I agree they are high, if not the highest) but you can't complain that there isn't world class offerings basically full time at Tired Hands. A growler fill at the Ferm never takes more than 10 minutes. Maybe people don't like the lines associated with the shake releases, but that is no different that when a collab releases at Trillium.

Speaking actually of beer, sorry to get everyone sidetracked to pricing again, how are the three from yesterday holding up. I liked both batches of HandBier last time around.

A growler fill once took me over 20min. It was a super busy lunch on a Friday.

I've never got a growler fill at TH in less than ten minutes, but I agree with the other points. They make great beer. The General Store is a positive addition. And even before that, there was always beer available there and to-go if you weren't looking for the trendiest cans. I would love for more Tired Hands cans to be available any time, no line and cheaper but what they're doing now seems to work for them quite well.

Man this thread is quiet.. what are we thinking for this week? No teasers on Instagram this week, tomorrow marks 4 weeks since Pineapple shakes, doubtful they'd have a release on Super Bowl sunday..

Shake release? been about three weeks since we saw the teaser of the space ice cream? maybe an Void release?

    maybe nothing????

More importantly, shouldn't a new batch of Prayer Group be coming out?

Do they release that in batches or is that something always at the general store, almost like ourison.

The first couple were announced as batches since batch one was all stainless and batch two saw time in the foeders. I think they teased a new batch last week? Maybe with an instagram story?

Totally random, but i had this crazy dream Jean signed a deal with Vans where they were doing limited runs of branded slip-ons with some of the can label artwork. Now i can't stop thinking about dudley vans. "this is the best shoe that i have ever worn"

I just wanted to say that I love the last (complete) sentence of this week’s can announcement: “You’re going to understand and appreciate Lagerbier eventually. =)”

One thing that I genuinely appreciate about Tired Hands is that they take serious the opportunity to be a tastemaker. It reminds me of Dan Suarez when he was a guest on Steal This Beer. He said something to the effect of “we’ve finally convinced people that Pils is worth buying.” By all means, sell people what they want. But you’re also in a position to shape what people want.

Alien Church and Trendler Schwarzbier...the amount of butt hurt in the comments is comical. I really hope there isn't a Sunday release so they can suffer some more.
