Their situation sounds like their problem.

My wallet, or price/value ratio is what drives my purchases, not consideration for the brewer's cost of operation or profit margin.

I saw a code on the last Simtra I bought, but didn't bother doing the cryptology work to decode it.

    What is their code system?
The fresh beer only site lists "no freshness info" for them. I'd give their other beers a shot if I could verify freshness.

And when freshness is verified, be sure to let me know!

you missed the point - the point was that the statement didn't make sense because it is impossible. I wasn't saying their situation was ideal. I would agree that their situation is screwy and I've heard tell of them moving to Auburn. Maybe that move will help reduce costs.

Bottling 12 oz beers and putting them into cardboard containers that hold 6 of them, is not impossible. There are probably over one thousand examples.

Knee Deep has chosen to rent equipment and bottle bombers, not 12 oz bottles.

In the past I had a bottle of Simtra and it was labled with KDBFZBC12 - if you convert the alpha to numeric you see that the KDB is the brewery and you worry about FZBC12 - F=6 / Z=nothing (because it wasn't bottled in October-December) / B=2 / C=3 / 12=year ... Bottling was 6/23/12

You're right - given their constraints of space that is the only option. It's all good, I'm burned out on this convo. I don't care if you don't buy their beers.

Is this what it actually represents or an educated guess? If it is good, i'll add it to my list.

It's legit, it's not a guess. I've seen them at like 6-8 weeks and passed and found them at 1-2 weeks and purchased. I don't know if every beer they do has this code or not. I've been told other breweries use this method of dating as well.

That system is so opaque that I honestly think they only use it so that they can claim to bottle date while still making it damn near indecipherable. Why the hell can't people just use "bottled on: ##/##/##????"

I completely agree - it's a mess especially on the fly when I want to quickly grab a bottle. It also isn't consistent, newer bottles I think even have an upside down character somewhere...

what I will say though is a splash of makers mark helped this beer out, once you can stomach that you're about to adulterate a 15 dollar bomber of beer.

Because if every brewery put a bottled on date...the somewhat knowledgable buyer could possibly pass it up because they know its old.
No freshness date = more sales. Remember, in the end it's all about the flow.

knowing what I know about hop forward beers I'm not going to buy a beer of that variety unless I know how long it's been in the bottle or if it's a first release.
