    More new beer:

To Øl Tropical Rumble. This is outstanding! Fantastic lasting head retention and thick soapy lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big lightly tart/tangy peach, mango, passion fruit, tangerine, lemon, grapefruit, pineapple, papaya, melon, guava, berry, citrus peel/zest, and light pepper/pine hops; with moderate cracker, white bready malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness; and light fruit tang/tartness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, light-medium body, and moderately crisp finishing. Balanced grainy malts and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Light resins/rinds, and acidic/tannic fruit. Moderate increasing tart/bitter dryness, no hop/fruit astringency. Very flavorful/refreshing, 4.3%. Fairly aggressive, but not overwhelming. Awesome juicy/dank hop and fruit complexity, with a solid pale malt backbone. Never watery for the low ABV. This uses Mosaic hops; along with Mango, Peach, and Passion fruit. They complement each other perfectly. Spot on Session IPA, one of the best I have had. 4.18

Excellent Berliner. Aromas and flavors of lightly tart lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, white grape, chili pepper, salt, hay, straw, and grass; with moderate wheat, white bread dough malts; mild lacto funk and yeasty earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness and light chili pepper spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium body. Bready/grainy malt, some lactic acid, and light pepper stickiness in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing tart/spicy dryness, no pucker. Increasing pepper heat through the glass, not overwhelming. Very drinkable, 4%. Really liked what they did here, very unique. Great balance of fruity Lacto and yuzu fruits, with a nice pale/wheat malt backing. Pleasant chili pepper presence that isn't overdone. Really enjoyable for the style, but not as lactic as I was expecting vs their other Berliners I've had. 4

Another first review as usual with locals. Delicious DIPA. Fantastic lasting head retention and thick soapy lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, melon, citrus peel/zest, and light pepper/pine hops; with moderate white bread, light honeyed malts; and floral/grassy hop earthiness. A bit muted on aromas. Light-moderate pine, citrus zest, floral, grassy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; bready/grainy malts and some sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter dryness, zero hop astringency. Never aggressive. Extremely drinkable, mildly warming 8.7%. Really great juicy citrus hop complexity; nice pale malt backing, with minimal residual sweetness. Classic Centennial, Cascade, Amarillo profile going on. Well attenuated and not overly sweet from the rice. Really impressive. I'd buy this again; they have 4 pack cans of it, but I grabbed the bomber to review. 3.91

Hello, NBS, from rainy environs around the castle. But at least it is sorta warm?

Finding it tough to maintain interest in the game. Frankly finding football to be ever less engaging to me over the last couple of seasons. I have to be a Pays, fan but a part of me is wishing they get their asses kicked so the local media will shut up about them. It has been a stressful weekend for various reasons, so what's in the fridge?

Why, it's Idle Hands P-funk. This is a mixed fermentation farmhouse ale. Pours hazy dark gold color, not too much of a head for the style. Enormous peach aroma emanates from the bottle, not quite as present in the taste. Typical saison aroma otherwise. No funky notes, but a decent level of fruity tartness, but the peach flavor is hiding somewhere in the taste, leaving a very good but decidedly typical sour saison. Wine-like feel, acidic tingle, medium-bodied, dry finish. This will roll up around 3.8 or so on the old BA-rometer. I would like it to be more lively and have more peach character beyond the tartness.

Thanks to @lordofthewiens fir the lead post. Thanks to everyone for their insights. @utopiajane get yourself well, lady...whatever is going around is no joke.

Happy New Southern Samuel Springhouse Shipyard, But NO Super Bowl, Sunday (Week 676)!

I'm back! It was a successful outing & after having seen 6 of the 9 Best Picture nominees, I am ready to go with "The Post" as my pick. I also like Frances McDormand for Best Actress.

You betcha! I'll sit right here with you waiting for it :sunglasses:.

Okay...I got it a long time ago during my Ren-fest phase. And by Ren-fest phase, I mean that one of my friends used to work at one every summer, while the rest of us lads found it to be a nice place to visit and engage in debauchery every now and then . Naturally, there were breaks in between debaucherous activities while there, and that's when we'd visit the artisans and well...even purchase stuff...I suppose :smirk::slight_smile:.

Walked in the door just in time to hear the Eagles won (and, more importantly, the Patriots lost). I don't really care about much aside from hockey, so if I pick a side for another sport, I tend to root for the underdog. Sundays have been quite busy for me, so I didn't get a chance to see any game. Heard it was a good one.

And finally getting to my first beer for today: Pizza Port Surf Stop pale ale, 5.5%, canned 1/3/18. Text on the back tells me it's a hoppy ale with a touch of rye.

Pours a light honey color. It's a little bit hazy with fine particulate. Foamy off-white head sticks around, leaving chunky foam behind.

I can really smell the bready sweet malt, and some piney hops. Perhaps a little rye spiciness. Mostly that pale ale toasty bread thing.

Medium carbonation, full creamy body, lingering bitterness. Toasted brown bread. Piney and floral hops aren't popping, but it's a month old can. More rye in the taste than smell. Smooth and easy to gulp down, but also nice to enjoy in sips. Long-lasting bitterness leads into some astringency.

I wish the malt were a touch deeper and had more caramel, but overall a fine pale ale with a light easy-drinking body. Tempted to look for a fresher can.

Finally back home after dropping my friends off. I'm quite tired, but I'll have a quickie.

Since there's no cute gals here, a quickie beer is what I'll have.

Not a bad beer. Fairly easy drinking, but not something I'd go out of my way for.

This beer pours a slightly murky golden color. The head is 2 finger, white, frothy. Retention is good, and nice lacing on the glass.
The nose is a mellow sight citrus aroma. Very light aroma.
Taste - slightly bitter, slight hops, some malt. Fairly well balanced, and none of the flaors are overpowering.
Feel - a bit watery, and lighter bodied, but to be expected with a lower ABV beer.
It's ok overall, but nothing I'd look too hard to find.

The Bills may not have made it to the Super Bowl, but I've never had this beer before, so what better day to drink it on?

Southern Tier One Buffalo. I knew nothing about this beer going in. I don't even know what style it is, so it's for all intents and purposes a blind review.

The beer is clear straw-yellow with a small tight white head that dies down after a few minutes, leaving some lacing.
It smells like like cereal grains, grass, honey, and white pepper. I'm guessing it's a pilsner.
The taste follows the nose. It's very light grainy, crackery malt with a zesty, grassy Noble hop presence. Hints of lemon with hay, grass, and white pepper. The malt is very crisp and dry, lacking the honey sweetness that some pilsners have. Nor is it overly bitter; the hops provide a bright floral and gentle citrus character without overwhelming the ghost-like malt. It's light but the carbonation is pushing and it's slammable. This is a very refreshing beer. I like this one a lot!

Thanks to @lordofthewiens for getting this great thread started, and to two great teams for a very enjoying show! After sampling some of Moonraker's finest juice bombs during the game, it's time for a change of pace.

After complaining about my local distro of Firestone Walker's LvU series in respect to freshness, I was quite happy to find cans on the shelves of my favorite spot this week with a little more than a week from canning in age. While I love the juice bombs, I honestly prefer a well executed Black IPA. These are damn near becoming an endangered (if not nearly extinct) species. While this doesn't seem quite like a replicate of the Wookey Jack recipe, I'm definitely digging Wookus.

Great pour, and some of the best head retention I've had on a beer recently. Nose competes piney hops with roasted malt. Piney aspects take prominence as it warms. Taste follows the nose, but favors the hops. Hides the ABV well, some bitterness on the finish. Rye contribution is subtle. Thinner bodied for the ABV, but perhaps that let's the hops lead the show... I'd have preferred more rye and malt presence, but I'll gladly drink what's in my glass. Overall rating link, BA score = 4.17, rdev = -0.2%

Just a quick follow up, after a few more sips it seems that the big culprit here is the over carbonation. And it's still drinking that way after so many hours. It's not quite a mess, but still not all that well executed either. The remainder will have to wait until tomorrow.

Big thanks to @choobaccaHB for this fine DIPA
Somewhat hazy and turbid. Fluffy white head.
Smell is a really interesting pull of floral citrus, a tad of general tropical leaning notes, and an almost smooth bitterness.
Taste is more of the same, but the funky leaning tropical notes are subdued. (I usually get put off by strong NZ and Aussie hop profiles). This is smooth. Almost brings the yeast into the fore. Smooth bitter finish. Citrus never fully surrenders.
    Mouthfeel is pillowy. Active carbonation.
Overall, I like this one. The hop profile had me a tad reserved but I found it balanced.

After watching my Falcons lose the Super Bowl last year in horrific fashion I had no intention of watching this year's game with any interest. My main concern were the scores at the end of the quarters, I had 7-4 and 2-2, I was optimistic with the 7-4 but quite surprised that the 2-2 hit. Did I mention the payout will be boxes of beer? Hell yeah!
I did pick up a couple of new ones for today.

    Orpheus Brewing Ascending
Poured a slightly hazy golden orange with a finger of white head.
Smell is a light citrus, pineapple, orange.
Taste is light bready malt, the citrus is more lime than anything.
    Light to medium bodied.
Overall well balanced, flavors are slightly subdued but balanced. This would be a good lawn mower beer on a hot day.
