Chicago Stout Releases (2018)

In my head, I said "BA stout," and I wrote "BA beers" despite knowing about the sisters and the lackluster Cooper project.

I now do recall that brasserie Blanc. I actually looked for it to try, but no dice. We seem to get surprisingly limited GI distro for being so close. Always a bit surprised.

 

This has been sitting on the shelf at my Binny's for the last week. Cabernet barrels make it an easy pass for me.

 

Interesting.

I'm not like kookoo for coco puffs over this, but if I saw it, I'd try it. Hopefully it shows up at my local store.

Yeah, someone should tell Revolution to stop marauding my wallet. I might entertain silly things like a wine barrel aged imperial then.

 

I enjoyed brasserie noir quite a bit, but I also drink lots of Cabernets, so....

 

Hopefuly not too off topic (not a stout but related to GI's BA stuff) but I hope to see more of GI's Grand Priestige this year. Loved it and still had a bottle from last year. Want another to compare how it ages.

I agree with the sentiments here, stouts and some other beers aged in wine barrels never add enough character to the beer for me to appreciate.

Also, when does Madagascar hit distro? I feel like I missed it but only think it was just released at the brewery.

 

Surly takeover at Links. BA Darkness flowing. Lots of tables available.

 

I had two thoughts:
- it was pretty rough right now. Wondered if it would come together better over time.
- Even though it was only like 9% of the blend, the dominant element for me was the rum barrel helldorado but that could be just because I don’t like rum or helldorado.

My least favorite anniversary ever.

 

Bought 2. Drank 1. Wished I hadn't bought any.

I got tons of Velvet Merkin, which is...not my favorite.

 

CBS just got tapped at Monk’s Pub downtown for anyone interested. $10 for a 10 pour.

 

Seems like a descent price considering a 25oz bottle was $25 at the brewery release.

 

And they have a bunch of BCBS stuff later this week.

Double milk stout with Peruvian cocoa nibs and lactose. Well, that certainly screams paczki inspired stout.

So...I liked the Rum flavor. Gave it a nice boozey finish from my pov.

 

I saw something from Surly that said they were shipping BA Darkness this week. Has anybody inquired at their local spots regarding when it's hitting? I'll be stopping into my local Binny's locations today.

 

Last year was the first year I had BA Darkness and I'm hooked.
