That's actually not that bad or as bad as I thought it would be considering the release.

Did anyone get to try the beers? Wondering if I should try and make it out there in between classes.

I've got a meeting coming up so I only tried 2 of the 3 things released today.

From Yakima with Love - I think some people were disappointed because it's not a juice-bomb, but it's mostly an unfiltered fruity West Coast DIPA. It's not very bitter to my taste, but definitely finishes with some dank notes, which I love. I think it's one of the best DIPAs Cellarmaker has made.

Coffee & Cigarettes - As a coffee lover, I always get C&C when it's fresh. And this batch is pretty full of coffee flavor. Not much more to say. It's always good, and it doesn't get better than day one.

    --------

I didn't try Moonage Daydream but my buddy who got a full pour said it was more beautiful than Double Moonage, and had big Galaxy taste ("tastes like an IPA, not a 5.5% Pale!")

I'm totally on board with that description of Yakima...can't wait to try it. Will definitely try C+C next week when I stop in for a pour of Evil Spread. And I think the picture they posted today influenced a lot of people's purchasing habits...saw a ton of Moonage going out the door. Don't people realize a beer doesn't have to look like orange juice to be delicious?

No, unfortunately they don't realize that. Walked up with no one in line at 1:45. Who has it better than us!? Both beers are great. Had in order Electric Eye, Moonage Daydream, Hop Making Sense, From Yakimah With Love, Coffee and Cigs. Three pale ales on the board two being hazy is very nice. I'm expecting more of the same this year. Moonage Daydream>Hop Making Sense>Electric Eye as far as pale ales. Coffee and Cigs tasting great as always.

Wonder how fast this'll sell out. I don't think these tend to be volume sellers at CM, but I've been pretty happy with Lost Wisdom.

    From Cellarmaker's Facebook page:

"For SF Beer Week, the crews at Cellarmaker Brewing Company, Social Kitchen & Brewery, and Temescal Brewing have teamed up to create a collaboration beer that's truly occasion-worthy.

Three Cheers is a crystal-clear Extra Brut IPA with Simcoe, Loral, and Zeus hops, a dry finish, and a cheer-inducing 6.6% ABV. Designed for the most laudable of festivities, this Champagne of IPAs rivals even Dom Perignon for its opulence, precision, and crushability.

It's also a toast to our brewers' roots, as Cellarmaker's Tim Sciascia, Social's Kim Sturdavant, and Temescal's Mike Makris all got their start at the legendary Marin Brewing Company. Raise your glass, because there's a fourth cheer in here for them.

On Friday 2/16, join us barside at City Beer Store as we unveil Three Cheers for the first time. We'll have the beer on draft and in cans to-go, along with a few special drafts from all three collaborating breweries. No tickets needed, just come by and enjoy the beer."

I bit the bullet and hit up the release before heading out of town. Only got FYWL since I'd had MD and didn't rate it very highly previously. Probably a mistake based on the review from a friend with similar tastes to me but oh well.

As for Yakima, which I'm drinking in my hotel room right now, this is an awesome West Coast style DIPA marketed as a hazy. Aromatic, bursting with flavor, light bitterness, delicious. Can't even guess it's 8.6%.

I'll leave out my commentary that a beer this good from 2 of the best in NorCal needed to brand itself hazy to stir up hype, since frankly I'm an admitted Haze fan myself...

eh fuck it - I blame the fact that so many WCIPAs I've had over the last year have frankly sucked. I travel to Seattle and Portland every month, where most breweries still gravitate to the West Coast style, and I swear I've found 9 out of every 10 undrinkable. Even before the Haze craze I felt the WCIPA success rate for my pallet was a very low percentage, but when I found a good one it was amazing. Fieldwork, Cellarmaker and Alvarado became my favorites when they all first opened specifically due to their ability to make great West coast IPAs.

I just love good hop forward beers and don't care what form it takes, but for the West Coast style to feel relevant in my eyes, the quality needs to be elevated on a consistent basis.

That is good to hear. Apparently the CM guys are coming up to Auburn/Moonraker in March to do another can collab for the Moonraker 2nd Anniversary Party in April.

Wow, so looks like there's still 8 cases left of From Yakima with Love.

It's sad that due to them posting a picture of the can being more WC, people didn't really go for it. (I personally think it's better than Big Lots and Double Moonage but that's just me.)

i dont think sad is the word i would use.... also it sounds like you would prefer most good WC IPAs to Big Lots and Double Moonage.

its disappointing to many that a CM/Moonraker collab would end up on the WC side (and I agree with this disappointment)

I don't like mediocre WC IPAs, and I don't like mediocre NE.

Some of the best juice bombs Cellarmaker have been...

Orange Julian (particularly the first batch... hasn't been replicated as well)
Hop Stuff (the first batch... the last time they brewed it, was completely different)
    Turok Juice
    Juice Gymnastics
    Double Dobis
(1st bottle version. It's been WC ever since)

I don't even like most of Cellarmaker's WC beers. My favorite are their fusion beers.
