I know this is online and a beer forum so everyone likes to fight, but I, as someone who doesn’t have a side in this fight, think this comes down to a simple difference of beer-buying philosophy, ie “Don’t buy more than you can drink immediately” vs “Load up for a future date when I might want said beer.” And there is some merit to both arguments, although I will say this: the BA Coffee Oil bottles I bought were amazing when I bought them and I bought a case. I just opened one recently and it has taken a turn for the worse. If I’d subscribed to the first buying pattern, I’m not a part of this conversation. And the fact that I didn’t, even though Brad himself has said the beers are meant to be drunk when released, means some of this is on me. It doesn’t mean I deserve to have infected beer, which is made clear by the fact that the brewery is offering exchanges. But I did know that whatever I opened now or later was probably going to be less good than the bottle I opened when I first bought it.

I posted this in WBAYDN but, my problem isn’t “off” flavors. It’s Identical flavors this beer tastes exactly like Black Mask and the Black Maple I had last weekend. Not oh similar I mean identical which I would say are off flavors.

This is actually an interesting point. Are stores pulling the bottles, or sending back? Not sure what's normal in a case like this.

I'd say that Cavalier would have to step in and offer stores refunds and go retrieve the beers themselves. This isn't unheard of, but still probably doubtful. I guess we'll see how this pans out.

For the sake of argument I had a 2010 bottle of Jackie O's Bourbon Barrel Sweet Chocolate Love recently and it was spectacular. Not sure if it improved from its original state or not, but it was definetly worth holding onto. #RIPJO'sbombers

We have to redose all the bottles. Its going to be a little while. Still have plenty here at the brewery of the carbonated bottles.

Stopped by Brew Kettle in Strongsville on the way home. Noticed the odd number of 10%+ beers on the board. Ogrefest! Large amount of barley wines and other biere forts. Among many other things, Jackie O’s Black Mask was on tap. Powerhouse flavor in that snifter. I apologize in advance for posting about actual beer and not philosophy ;n)

FWIW, had a few bottles left of the beers that had potential infections. Figured I would open this week. 2 of 3 Vanilla Black Maple were infected, 2 of 2 Black Mask were infected. 2 of 2 regular Black Maple were infected and my last Champion Ground was infected. Oh well, Appervation will have to do.

Thanks for the info here folks. In the middle of working out a trade for some JO's stuff, so decided to see what's out. Glad I checked. Got a little worried when I saw the list. I have a BB Oil and BB Brick Kiln Nuts that I thought were 17, but just checked and they are 16. So hopefully I'm good?

Yes, I know they should be drank, but we don't see JO here, and want to open them with friends. Other things always seem to take priority when I'm pulling stuff for shares. Glad I drank the Champion Ground and Black Maple I got right away!

Something up with BBCV Dark App? I have a 2016 bottle still. Yes, I know it should be drank (see above).

It's not on the infected list, but the brewery's post says the problem is with barrel aged beers with adjuncts, so it's the only anniversary release that falls into that category.

And 2018 BB Dark App and 2018 BB CV Dark App added to the infection list...

Honest question, what is left that is not infected that you can trade your bottles for? The trade-in deadline is in May I believe, and they won't be bottling any new adjunct stouts until the summer when they get the bottle pasteurizer. So I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see any new bottles from them besides the basics, but even then it appears 2018 BB Dark App is also infected. So what is left to trade the bottles for? Unless they are taking a loss and letting you swap the $12 bottles for more expensive sours?

They pushed it back to June with the update, and I believe trading for sours is an option, yes. Definitely a sad state of things, especially if you're not able to get down there sooner to get the better selection of bottles as they're picked over more and more.

I'd assume a lot of the people that already traded in bottles picked up some Coffee Vanilla DA. That would be awful...

I'm just hoping the upcoming Skipping Stone release is unaffected. I'd be weary of buying multiple bottles from them until the pasteurizer is online.

Your question could be easily answered by cross-referencing the to-go bottle list on their site with the list of infected beers

I think what he’s basically asking is that does it work as a $12 credit, as a BB VCDA is not going to get you a Houndstooth 1:1.
