So I saw Blind Lady was charging $40 for what amounts to almost a pint of each pliny. Is this the going rate at other bars in the SD area that got it? If so, I'm a bit less inclined to seek it out. If some proceeds are for charity I could probably talk myself into it, but otherwise just seems way too steep.

Most places charge $8-12. BLAH usually has a higher ticket cost and does it for charity, but I don't see anything listed as charity on that BPT page.

Yeah I assumed there was a charity element, just similarly didn't see it posted anywhere.

Having just yesterday tried younger im genuinely confused about why anyone would try it more than once. Its a fine beer and sure maybe i prefer it to PtE but id rather have Row 2 Hill 56 over anything else hoppy RR offers. I didnt even have a bad experience at Russian River (waited about 1 hr exactly from arrival to getting a pour) its just that Younger is maybe the only beer line ive ever been in where I didnt feel surrounded by beer people. I was surrounded by a bunch of random normal people who have no idea how good the everyday beer is at their local breweries..... Good for them for exploring a bit but I think younger will be a let down for most people new to beer while simultaneously drawing a lot of that crowd.

P.S. The cops are out in force in the streets around Russian River. Be safe out there.

I would argue that it would be a good time for someone newer to beer because they're there because of the rarity, the mystique, the journey. And to them good beer is good beer.

I'd think it would be a letdown to someone has had great, similar beer for years and made the trek thinking "this is excellent, but this taste like 15 other IIIPAs i've had before."

Oh well. I understand why some have this notion and feel it doesn't meet the hype. But if that beer was readily available throughout the year it would smoke all the other readily available big hoppy beers out on the west coast. It's that much better. In my opinion.

Again when I first tried the Younger back in 09 there wasn’t many ipa/dipa/tipa to choose from. So for me it was pretty good. And to have Blind Pig and the Elder in the same space was extra bonus then. Good enough to fly back to Santa Rosa the followIng year for some more younger and other RR delights. My third year of having the Younger was pretty much my last time I had it. I believe it was at Beachwood SB. We here in SoCal started brewing some good ipa and dipa’s the years to follow and the mystique of the Younger went away for me. Like the Elder if it just happens to show up someplace and I’m there I will have a pour or pick up a bottle. Not going out of my way for the young or old. So for those new or newbies into the craft world scene I’d say go for it and hope it’s all that for y’all. Cause the younger and elder and blind pig is for the most part what paved the way how we got into hoppy beers. Cheers.

If you want a kick-ass IPAs (single, double, and triple) but don't want to spend hours and hours in line, try Moonraker Brewery in Auburn California. This brewery has won many awards for their IPAs, including a couple gold medals from the prestigious Bistro IPA Festival in Hayward.

Sorry but for my palate and preferences All Hops on Deck is nowhere near PtE, Extremis is good but it's still no match for the dry batches of PtY. Moonraker does some great things, but there's better West Coast style IPA/DIPA/TIPA brewers around NorCal.

I've enjoyed/loved every moonraker beer I've had. Doesn't seem like anyone on this site feels differently. Bringing them up in a PtY discussion is hilarious though.

So for those who have had pliny the younger so far this year, is it all hype or is it worth waiting 3hrs in line for one pour?

I'm one of the people who was not impressed by Moonraker when I visited the brewery about a year ago. Below average hazy for California. Then again Pure is hyped to shit and their recent cans are not very exciting.

I agree with the others who indicate that after having PTY there is no need to rush out and try it again. I much prefer either a great single IPA or delicious hazy double IPA. No need for the triples people go nuts for. Though if I was craving it I would just buy a fresh Power Plant bomber from El Segundo and drink that and avoid the lines.

Hype. Try it once and be on your merry fucking way back to monkish to stand in line for another 3 hrs for a "new" released beer with now TRIPLE DRY HOPPED ipa with Galaxy!

Moonraker, below average for West Coast haze? Honestly for my palate, preferences, and East Coast points of reference that is not the case. Pardon the thread tangent, but if you don't mind, please tell me who's on top for CA NE-style in your experience @sdhopaddict such that Moonraker is below average? TIA

It's possible that sdhopaddict visited on an off day. I've encountered that at almost every brewery I've been to multiple times. The mistake is to dismiss the brewery based on that single experience.

I like Moonraker more than Monkish, but when I visited MR a few months ago I didn't like most of my pours. Hopefully that was a fluke.

But I'd love to try one of these TIPAs that are supposedly better than PtY. I haven't had any.
