Yes, classifying the beers like they are classified in their natives cultures. By putting this general categorization over all beers you pretty much ignore how brewers and costumers alike have referred to their beers for a long time, and this is, for the most part, not acording to yeast strains.... I mean take biere de gardes for example, there are bottom fermented examples out there....so is this "style" sometimes a lager and sometimes an ale? Or what about porters?

    1.BCBS is good but overrated.
2.The endless variations of “what is your favorite IPA” thread are overdone, boring and useless.
    3. I’ll gladly bring my 2 year old to a brewery because he is so freaking cute. And if you are annoyed by him instead of finding him as freaking cute as I do, you’re an inhuman monster!

If your 2 year old is quiet, I'm sure I'll find him quite adorable.

Can we at least agree that there are multiple factors that go into properly classifying beer and that some will always be "tweeners" no matter how hard we try to pigeon hole them?

Absolutely. The garbage repeating that beer is divided between ale and lager is so often repeated that it it is taken as gospel.
Let us go back to the days where there were two separate brewing industries in the UK , beer (ie stout/porter) and ale.
When fashions changed, Porter lost ground to Ale and many brewers began making both:

Now it is true that Ales and Stouts (of course Stout is just another name for Porter) are top fermented but that is a consequence of the conditions and ingredients at the time rather than a deliberate decision. But it is clear that not all top fermented beers are Ales because they can be Stouts too.
In Germany, where Ale was always regarded as an entirely British beer type , some beers were also top fermented, But some were also lagered which caused them to be legally lagers.
Here is a label for an Obergariges Lagerbier , or in English a top fermented lager.

In other words although there is often a correlation between yeast types and beer class, the sort of beer is not governed by it,

I've only had one eisbock, and I did enjoy it. Raunchier isn't my thing, I don't really like overly smokey beer. I just meant as a whole most lager styles are more about subtlety and even though I still like them.

Fair enough. If we could also get drunken obnoxious adults to stop screeching, then we’re in business!

So, with multiple countries with long brewing traditions being represented, how do you suggest that one goes about classifying beer, other than "however the people that brewed it want it classified"?

It doesn't need it! You can have Ales and Stouts relating to beers developed in the UK , absorb the German way of classifying their beers and so on. Why do people have to insist on making beer styles from entirely separate brewing heritages belong into one of two classes?
Until very recently the world managed quite well without the concept of "styles" , they just drank it

And Chinook, Columbus, and a couple other hops. Congress Street is a very good IPA that comes to mind with a decent dose of green onion.

Unrelated, another opinion: Tired Hands is a Trillium/Tree House/Hill Farmstead level brewery but prolific to their detriment. They brew dozens (hundreds?) of beers a year, and if they really dialed in a core fleet of beers like the above breweries have, they'd be just as well-respected. But, they brew beers with mushrooms and oysters and curry and stuff like that, and they have the controversial milkshake series. Their occasional over-experimentation shouldn't detract from beers like Alien Church, Such Passion, Wish Fulfillment, Pineal, and Only Void that are fucking amazing and more straightforward.

I don't think that's controversial, Tired Hands gets a lot of praise. Even if it is for their shakes, it still gave them the name to be able to do the experimental stuff. You're wanting them to pigeon hole themselves to a few styles, I think that is the exact opposite of what they need to do. Expand, explore

Which is fine as long as you're OK with him being exposed to foul language and grownups behaving badly.
