Shine a light on it, your phone flashlight works perfectly for this.

You have a shop near you that gets Andechs kegs?? Whoa...jealous.

No, I held it right up to a lit up 60 watt lightbulb and couldn't see a thing. I can check the date on the first drop the next time I open one, though. Got four left.

Weird, cell phone light works for me on that exact beer.

Cool beans, So what's the date on the ones you have, so we can see if some of these popping up in the last couple of weeks are notably different?

I'm in CA so they wouldn't even be from the same brewery, you would be getting beers from Chicago.

It seems Lagunitas should have an app for this very purpose.
I have now tried both the Willit and the Hi West - while they're different overall equally tasty :sunglasses:

Or just clearly print the date on the label. It's no accident that the numbers are hard to read.

I'm not sure this is entirely true. Lagunitas doesn't have a huge offering of stouts, which are the only ones that make it a little difficult to see the julian dating. Plus, as you mentioned, if you have a flashlight than it's not too difficult to read when the bottle is unopened. I don't think they're trying to hide anything, they just choose to date their bottles that way instead of another. I'm just thankful they choose to put a date on there at all! I've completely stopped buying anything other than stouts from most breweries since a good portion of them don't use any dating system at all! (looking at you, Evil Twin)

I’ve had issues reading their dates on non-stouts as well. Their bottle dating really is poor. Good beer, great prices...bad bottle dating. I suppose that is way better than great dating and bad beer!

I've never had an issue. I've also never seen old Lagunitas, their distro has been pretty timely (save for the Willettized!).
Once, I got Sucks 5 days after it was bottled!!

Also, to him that inquired: my dating on the Willettized in Columbus is 333 7. So, November 29, 2017.

What gets me is that a lot of brewers have responded quickly and have implemented the independent craft brewer seal but they can't get their act together on standardizing the location, readability, format, or even existence of the bottling date. Granted it can take a change of expensive dating equipment so it could take them a while - but despite this having been an issue forever, there seems to be no motion on this. How about the Brewer's Association making this a featured advantage of being an independent craft brewer?

Further thought, add it to the seal - on one side of it leave an empty box for it.

If I can't find a date, I won't buy the beer. Plain and simple. I never have issues finding Lagunitas dates on the bottle.

They don't do it because they don't want to. The ones I've spoken with on the phone or who responded to my emails gave me well rehearsed words that didn't actually answer my question. Pick a reason . . .

Yeah, it's going to eventually take someone forcing or pressuring them to do it. Perhaps if a few of the major players were aboard, it would be enough pressure to bring others around. Then the strays could be shamed.

Beginning to think I'm not going to see this. Or maybe I just missed it. Either way... :slight_frown:

Thanks. Looks like some cases just lost at your nearby distributor rather than a second drop, then. The entire allotment in my area seems to have disappeared the morning it was released this year, I was lucky to get some.

Just like with High-westified, there must not have been enough to hit all markets with Lagunitas distribution. We never got either one in bottles, though have gotten both on tap. I'm going to a local beerfest on Saturday and it's on the list.
