I just took a look at this blog myself. It does look fascinating. Appreciate seeing the pointer.

That should be required reading for beer drinkers and those wanting to learn how to properly and completely disparage the idiocy that surrounds us!

I'm not so sure about that. Adopting that point of view would have me putting some of my best friends in the category of being "half-wits and morons" who enjoy "stagnant ditch water."

I like Space Dust IPA by Elysian and I don’t care that is not a true craft beer or it used to taste better before selling out to big beer (so they say).

I don’t know the names of all the best beers nor all the best breweries. I like beer that tastes good to my palate and that doesn’t make me any less of a beer lover (or BA) than some guy who knows every brewer by first name and knows every hop variation ever grown.

After a few years of cellaring almost as a preference over drinking the beer, I couldn't agree more with this.

But in order to get cellaring to be less of an urge, we need brewers to abide by this:

Every stout I've cellared developed a Tootsie Roll flavor, every barley wine a "stretch Armstrong" goop smell taste. Sadly, I have a group of decent beer from like 08-11 still waiting their turn in my glass.

What shelfies bury mornin delight or king sue? I personally love both beers, and now that king will be in cans it'll actually be an affordable beer soon. Even though I rated MD a 5 I will agree there are other great stouts and I wouldn't go crazy trading for it.

I increasingly suspect that even accounting for the amortized cost of my equipment, a batch of homebrew now costs me less than the same volume of many similar commercial beers. If it's a style I can easily brew and it's nothing particularly special, I'm less inclined to buy it and more inclined to brew it.

I've been thinking about making my own beer at home but I won't do it unless I can brew Julius on my first try.

I actually loved Sam Adam's Triple Bock. Had it when it first came out, blew my friggin' mind. Had it 10+ years later still pretty good. I never got "soy sauce."

Saisons don't do it for me. I still try them, cuz I always wanna try new, but...nope. Also Belgian style pale ales and IPA's don't either.
Lambic, yes. Highly sour beers, no.

This reminds me why I avoid these threads like the plague. While I get the premise, your statement is flawed - - severely.

Yeah - age has nothing to do with knowledge of a topic. I'm old, but new to craft, and I'm sure there are a lot of younger folks that know more than I. Doesn't stop me from sharing my "knowledge" though

I can grab beers like tweak, weldwerks coffee coconut stout, rino nitemare fuel, cerebral here there be monsters on shelves here anytime. I was surprised how disjointed and thin MD was when I had it. Comparing apples to apples, WW coffee maple achromatic blew it away. As for king sue, I will take anything from Melvin, Comrade, Pipeworks, Odd 13 and Crooked Stave as far as hoppy offerings go.

This is all % 100 subjective of course.

Oh, I was sorta kinda joking around. It was the thorough disparagement that interested me, not necessarily that I completely agreed with the passion and larger point.

    The Beers of Fame list?

I think it largely depends on which styles you're looking for that determines your perspective. I don't see many Helles, Dunkels, Altbiers, English bitters, low ABV brown ales, session beers that aren't IPAs or Gose...

Not to mention, just because you can find certain styles on the shelves, if there's less of them, there's likely less good examples.

I'd rather have the drunks than the hipsters. At least drunks can sometimes be funny.

Come to Boston, specifically Somerville/Cambridge. Just about every brewery here has plenty. There's one in particular (I don't want to name them and risk bashing them, because that's not my intention) in which the majority of the people there are hipsters.

I'm glad you clarified that most releases are not like that. Because I've never been to one like what you described. That's certainly an outlier.
