All apologies, I didn't mean to write that, it must have been a typo.

IIRC it's normally just listed on beer menus as "Gulden Draak", though.

Edit, sorry, I'm being dense and getting the regular and the 9000 confused. The point remains that a Belgian beer menu won't normally tell you much more than what's actually in the name.

That was one of the things that stood out for me during a two week business trip in Brussels—no listing by style, just the name of the beers.

I also thought it was a bit ironic that in the hotel where I was staying they just assumed diners would be having wine and the beer menu was for the bar. Upon request they'd provide the beer menu. (I typically would explain to a new server that I hadn't come to Belgium to drink French or German wines. :sunglasses:)

Mostly what I had with dinners on that visit was the Westmalle Triple, one of my all time favorites.

Not to worry, it happens. But at least we know know why I was a bit confused.

It was pretty good, but honestly not much of a traditional quad.

If you ever get a chance to acquire a bottle of Mystic's Day of Doom, I found it to be very good and very Belgian.

There'a barrel aged version as well, haven't had it though.

If the box office can roll up Canadian box office into "domestic" I feel I can do the same for beer.

But infection can cause diacetyl, which tastes like butterscotch, or wearthers originals.

As for american quads, both River North brewing and Elavation brewing have quads out that put sixth glass and BBQ to shame. Avery reverend is solid as well.

This beer was my first thought when I saw this thread.

Not The Stoic is...well...not The Stoic. In name and in quality.

I agree. This is similar to ESB, which is only Fullers ESB in the UK, it is a Strong Bitter.

A little later than I had anticipated, but finally cracked that bottle of Czig Meister Unholy Ritual. Lots of raisin and caramel but the alcohol was very well-hidden, unlike the Weyerbacher Quad I had a few weeks back. Very rich and sweet, yet soft and easy to drink at the same time. Really enjoyable to have a locally made and straightforward quad.

That’s great to hear. I’m a big fan of Czig so it makes me happy to hear they’re doing good things. Unfortunately I’ve missed out on all their recent large format bottles as I’ve been unable to make the trip to the brewery. I’ll need to check beer menus and see if anything has made its way into the wild.

I've seen a couple of their large format bottles at Bottle King, so they've made it out to distro before. Unfortunately BK doesn't use Beermenus, but may be worth checking if you're in the area.

The closest is Livingston, I believe. I’ve never actually been in there, but I’ll swing by the next time I’m heading over to World Market.

    Appreciate the heads up.

How old was the Weyerbacher Quad?

    Cheers!

I bought it at the brewery and it was pretty fresh for a quad, about 2-3 months old. It had too much heat on it for my liking. I put my last bottle in the cellar for the time being. I saw your post in this thread about drinking them with some age on them, so I'm glad I did. I plan to revisit in a year or so.
