Yup, something on top of the Beat B3 or BT09 for the Rare...

Well so much for the Rare i was gonna send you. Next time just throw logic out the window. And i wish my sphincter tightened up like yours. Then maybe my acid reflux wouldnt be so fucken bad.

Haha, that would be a epic moment in ones life. I often thought about doing something similar to this with a drinking buddy if the opportunity ever arose. Shit would be unreal. Actually had a Rare last week on Sat, in Vegas. Wonderful moment.

Had a few RAREs when they were released, would I trade mine now? NO!

being in a tasting group with someone who is insane and opens a rare almost every time we get together, i can tell you that based on my opinion of having had rare MANY times over the past 6 months that rare is drinking probably better than ever. will it peak now or soon? i can't tell you, but every time i have had it, it was better than the time before. important note - i have NO rare to trade or drink - drank my last bottle in early september.

billyshears is the real deal. we miss him in NY.

i did my 2nd to last rare straight up for a BT 09 and have been lucky enough to have had both pretty regularly lately. i think BT09 straight up is still a fair trade in rarity and taste (although that's what i did so duh). they are essentially apples and oranges. i can tell you though that the tasting groups are always more pumped to see an 09 BT than a Rare, but both are big crowd pleasers.

    Who cares? It tastes good.

Edit: for every one "Rare is declining" comment I see 10 people saying it's awesome

Rare is (hopefully) my back up plan in case I don't end up liking Bolt Cutter. I don't have the palette to appreciate barleywines (I had a King Henry this past winter and thought it was merely ok) but I am planning on picking up two Bolt Cutters with my ticket and going to Founders' Anniversary Party to try it on tap. If I like it, I'll keep it. If not, I'm going to see how hard the hype train rides in and try to trade the two for a Rare.

When we had Rare and 2012 BA Dark Lord relatively side-by-side at a tasting a couple months ago, BA Dark Lord was the clear winner (and IMO, it wasn't close). That said, it's been a while since I've had Rare on its own in a state where I can really appreciate it (rather than at a big tasting competing with other big beers), so I don't feel like I have a great handle on how it compares right now to when it was fresh.

Bolt Cutter was nice... not sure how much hype it will garner though... I agree w/ you that King Henry was not lights out... as a matter of fact I think it's pretty on par with Abacus... BC was a bit hoppier to me but I enjoyed it... I'd still rate MOAS over all of them though

I would agree that Bourbon DL '12, to me tastes significantly better than Rare. Did not have them at the same time to compare exact notes, but liked the overall mouthfeel of the Bourbon DL more. Rare is awesome though, and one of my biggest hesitations in trading my last bottle is I'd love to drink it at my wedding which is most likely to occur in the next two years.

It's been that long already? We need another one stat...are you going to be around here for Thanksgiving weekend? I've got something set up that could provide a fine venue.

    Also, Bourbon DL roolz.
