Weyerbacher has them beat this year. Southern holds my #2 though. I never really gave the pumpkins a rightful shot until this year. These are my top 2. Hoppin frog double prob rounds out my 3, but not even in same league as these 2.

My favorite Pumpkin beer by far! The taste of graham cracker is unbelievable.

A lot of people posting on this thread have said Pumking tastes exactly like pumpkin pie. I wish you would stop saying this, it isn't true. Either that, or a lot of you can't bake for shit.

I love ST's Pumking..but it doesn't taste like pumpkin pie, nor is it advertised as such. Isn't it brewed with pagan spirit?

Oh, that's what that was. I thought it tasted like those cinnamon Red Hot candies. But pagan spirit makes more sense.

I just can't do it. I like pumpkin beers but this one was just too over the top for me.

So I guess the Brothers have no idea what they are talking about either. From their review:

"Basically, this is like liquid pumpkin pie with a kick."

Sorry, it tasted like carbonated corn syrup with a touch of cinnamon to me.

Wow, some very different opinions on this year’s Pumking. I was not a fan of this year’s version; it was too much for me. Below is something I posted on another thread:

“I only had Pumking once this season; a month ago on tap at a local beer bar. That goblet of beer had a very noticeable spice taste. After I finished my glass my wife commented (she had a sip of that beer): I am surprised you finished that since it was so spicy. Frankly, I was surprised that I finished it too. I have not had a glass since and I did not purchase any bombers this year. In past years I have purchased multiple bombers of this beer.”

    Cheers!

I'm not a fan of this style but I did have a bottle of Pumpking and its very good. I thought I was drinking a pumpkin pie. I'll go out and say that its the King of all pumpkin brews.

I had the Elysian Dark O’ The Moon on draft. It is a Pumpkin Porter. There are very subtle pumpkin pie spices in it but it tasted more like just a Porter (albeit a very good Porter) to me. I enjoyed drinking it but I would have personally preferred that the spicing level was a bit higher.

Pumpkin Ales can be ‘challenging’ since the proper level of spicing will vary with each beer drinker. For what it is worth my favorite Pumpkin Ale this year is Flying Dog The Fear. It is an Imperial Pumpkin Ale which is just right (for my palate): just the right mix and amount of spicing plus a nice taste from using chocolate malt.

    Cheers!
