Properly? Probably not. Can you get the general idea? Sure.

Properly takes multiple encounters with a decent amount over a period of time. In other words, proper evaluation/assessment takes more than sniff and chug.

So drink some water, eat a cracker, and give your palate some time to recover. It's not a race.

So you like German Pilsners but don't like Kölsch?

    You have failed at life.

What is your reason for not liking them?

It's not our living with it that counts. It's whether you're missing out on something that counts to you. :sunglasses: However, I don't think it's just visual, IIRC all those bubbles on the sides of the glass can also be related to a difference in flavor as well. e.g., lost aromas from the head, etc.

If the wife insists (which I completely understand) that you towel dry try following the procedures many bars use which rinse out the glass before you pour and then see what happens.

If you want to minimize what I said down to a "sniff and chug" go ahead, but that's not at the heart of my statement. If it takes you a bunch of liquid to be able to pick out flaws and assess a beer, more power to you. It's still not what's required.

I never said I like German Pilseners. In fact I said the opposite just a few posts earlier.

You have failed at reading comprehension.

    I'm dying. Also ISO.

Edit: Also, "Cuvée Dry Hopping" is a stupid name and illustrates my original point.

How long does it typically take you to finish a beer at a tasting?

Not required to figure out if you like it or you're going to drink it again? I'd agree. Not required to pick out nuance? Disagree completely.

    Depends on the tasting.

I can pick out nuance in less than full pours and I'm far from alone. We'll just agree to disagree here. Not going to keep droning on or arguing in a thread about controversial thoughts.

5,000 + breweries in the US. Why trade? Drink fresh, drink local. You answered your own question. FOMO isn't all it's cracked up to be?

Could someone please post a glossary with a translation of of all the acronyms and abbreviations used in this thread for the older folks?

Haven't traded for a LONG time, but I could see how this would suck.

Although I still see a reason to trade, there is SO much more beer out there that is of better quality and is readily available. IMO, the reason to trade should be greatly diminished because of this. The grass really isn't greener, it's just different grass.

Quite honestly that brew was so unenjoyable that I did a quick rinse (no soap or towel) and immediately consumed a second one in that same filthy glass

Have you ever tried a DFH Olde School ?
If so then you would know that a few insignificant bubbles, bacteria, dog hair, dirty finger or similar are not going to drastically change the taste or aroma of this wonderous brew .

I think I need to go grab a shovel right now and go dig up the Olde School bottles that were buried in the backyard from last year . If I can’t locate them do you or possibly anyone else have a metal detector I can borrow ??

If not ,I’m afraid I will be forced to drink the Central Waters Brewers Reserve Barleywine BBA ales that are awaiting me and my dirty glass collection .

Your help and advice will be noted ..

Please just let me enjoy my delicious Barleywine style brews in my filthy Hamm’s glass ..

Can't say that I've seen that from either of them, but, then again, I don't drink a lot of beer from either of them. That beers that I have had recently were quite good, however.

    Maybe. :smirk:

But, then again, maybe Bourbon County Brand Barleywine and 12th of Never were just stellar beers?
