I definitely agree that Brouwerij West makes some of the best IPA's in SoCal currently.

I am just hoping that the quality won't drop since they are looking for a new head brewer. I saw on instagram that they are hiring a new head brewer since their former head brewer is moving to seattle...

Alligator & Picnic Lightning were so good!

Currently on the hunt for some Tahiti Substation and 8 1/2

My local shop just sold out of Tahiti, That one was damn good. I put Picnic Lightning as my top pick, followed by Alligator, then Tahiti Substation.

The more I drink it, the more I think Tahiti Substation is their best beer.

Green Shift by Beachwood. But they don't make that beer nearly enough in a year.

Great thread. Was taking the other day with a friend that there’s so much new beer in cans from smaller breweries in San Diego that there’s probably something I’m missing. Before kids I went to a lot of breweries now when I have time I stick to the close and reliable.

IPAs I’ve bought recently are City of the Sun & Orderville from Modern Times and Windows Up from Alpine. When I can find fresh cans I always grab Lupulin Lust and Off the Lip from Rip Current. Hard to find fresh cans and not always consistent but when they are dialed in they are great.

Haven’t tried anything from Fall, Abnormal, Mikkeller or 2nd Chance. See their stuff all the time but haven’t taken the leap of faith yet. Any suggestions?

Fall, I am not a huge fan of, but I seem to be in the minority in this one.

Abnormal, hit or miss, but I usually get Boss Pour when I see it.

Mikkeller, also hit or miss, more hits than misses as of late. Windy Hill is always a solid choice, but as a note it is also their standard IPA that they rotate hops with. I believe they list the hops on the label, so you can always see what it was made with this batch. Cans of Raspberry Blush also works for a hot summer day...I wouldn't have thought coffee and raspberry go together, but damn I was proven wrong.

2nd Chance, I need to give another shot for their hoppy stuff since whenever I see them I usually just grab a Tabula Rasa since I know it is a solid porter.

Apologies for being less than helpful.

Edit: It is also Booming Rollers time for Modern Times btw.

I really liked the current MT Havnor IPA... though bomber format. As mentioned, should be Booming Rollers soon too.

But most of their offerings are non-hazy. Especially offerings to-go. The last batch of Citraholic was killer.

They'd have been crazy not to. And BW11 was exemplary, IMHO. That being said, Citraholic and Amalgamator (and LBC IPA) are now in their regular canning rotation. They just had a batch of Hops of Fury and Green Shift. There's also the Galaxy series. Hop Ramen still makes its rounds..... etc.

It would be nice to see one of BW’s DIPA in cans alongside CitraHolic, Amalg and LBC.
