Besides HF and Suarez, what else comes close for this style?

I would put Crooked Stave, OEC, Allagash, and Jester King on that level of skill and taste. YMMV.

I visited Suarez this weekend after having a couple of their beers around. It was everything I wanted it to be. Fantastic beers, gracious hosts, cool ambiance. If you want haze, Sloop is not far (and very good in their own right), but I could sit in Suarez all afternoon.

I mean to be fair their pales are hazy and juicy, but way more balanced and flat out tastier than like almost every other ipa or pale ale I've ever had. Citrus and tropical notes abound, but they're countered by the absolute perfect amount of earthy or piney bitterness to maximize deliciousness. And they're sluggable as all hell to boot. I know they don't want the hype and lines and what not but I really wanna see them put some of that hoppy goodness in cans.

If they started canning Crispy Little and Believe You Me I'd quit my job, pack my shit and move to Hudson.

I know everything at Suarez is incredible, but in case folks haven't tried it yet - the Merkel Danube is pretty next level. I've only tasted this depth of barnyard-funk in the best bottles from Cantillon, De Garde, Jester King, etc. Even within that tier, it lacks that abrasive lactic acid flavor that can overpower other wild beers and has a super dry finish that makes it fairly unique, I think.

This happened to my favorite local place this past weekend . I pray Suarez stays below the hype and the line bros don’t ruin another place.

Just popped in to say the new Merkel and General Store are fucking amazing. Merkel is huge funk and horseshit on the nose, and then a light, fruity mix of kriek and saison on the palate. General store is like a bowl of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and cherries with a sprinkle of lemon juice and a caramel drizzle. Herbal bitterness peeks through ever so slightly on the finish. Both blew me away. And the new batch of palatine is straight fire.

It's actually a good thing that they're a serious drive for me because I would probably bankrupt myself if I could get there on a weekly basis. Honestly as it is I feel like 70% of my beer consumption right now is Suarez stuff. Just stocked up for the next few months too so that's probably not gonna change any time soon.

How fast will Merkel sell out? Any chance they’d still have bottles by late afternoon Saturday?
