This is true, even for true Italian pizza...American pizza needs good beer

Don’t be, there’s plenty of other greatness in the world that needs appreciating.

Yeah well the style is trash so there you go.

Coffee tastes bad, burns my mouth and ruins beer.

    I can enjoy Four Loko.

A "beer" that truly had "no flavor" should get a zero (or, 1, here). Beer should have some flavor. Even if it's a bad flavor, at least it shows effort. It should certainly get a low score, but not "average".

9/10 NE IPAs taste like better or worse versions of the same beer.

Make a beer look hazy just to ride the trend should earn an instant trip to the pit of misery.

    Milkshake IPAs are horrendous.

Some of Firestone Walker's big barrel aged beers, especially the Anniversary ales, can get so sweet they are nearly undrinkable.

I don't like beer with pizza because I think that hops clash with cheese.

    @Kraz
Just to build on what laketang is saying, we will periodically host style tastings here on Beer Talk centered around easy to get versions of the topic style. We even did an AAL one last spring. Keep your eyes peeled for when the next one comes around, they're pretty fun.

Oh ok, that's cool then. I thought you were going to say that style of beer can NEVER be a 5 (I'm not saying it should or shouldn't, because the style is subpar in my opinion, but if you rate to style...)

In MY OPINION, Bud is a solid adjunct lager. Refreshing every once in a blue moon too.

    Amended your post slightly.

Ha, for the most part, yes it is.

Are you sure about that? See below.

Don't think I've ever tried that, now I'm curious!

Hmmm, you may be on to something, the malt may work well, I'm usually drinking IPA's. Thanks I'll try it.

Some controversial opinions? Or are they? Have fun if you like, but I won't be replying.

-AAL drinkers are not hypnotized by advertising into thinking AAL tastes good.

-People care about haze in the same way they care about a beer label, as a method to find a beer that might have a taste, aroma, and mouthfeel they'll enjoy.

-Beer styles are not designed logically, and are not designed for easy use by consumers.

-ABI doesn't want to put the craft beer industry out of business.

-The traditional way to brew traditional styles is not always the best way to brew them in the modern world.

-The newest craft lovers are smarter about craft beer than we were at this point.

-There is no taste that is beer taste, every beer tastes like what beer tastes like.

They especially work well with a pizza that has some char to it. But even if that's not the case, there's enough dark malt twang and residual sweetness to work with the tomatoes, as well as some bitterness to cut through the cheese. I should also qualify this as an English style porter, because those are complementary with the herbs as well. Hope you enjoy it if you try it!

I've encountered a few dead horses, an echo chamber, fawning fanboy fluff (any 'appreciation' thread particularly Sixpoint related), but this is my first Pandora's Box. Oh, and Sixpoint brews average beer.

The IPAs may be part of the problem, at least they would be for me. So I supect that something that emphasizes the malt might indeed work for you.

My all time favorite Beer and Pizza pairing is a well made Oktoberfest with just about any version of Pizza. In second place I'l put a Munich Helles Lager.

Something I learned from reading Gerritt Oliver's Brewmaster's Table is that we want to give as much thought to pairing beer with food as we would to using any particular condiment or other food items.

An off the top of my head example would be that sprinking some powdered cinnamon over a slice of fresh pear, or putting on a few drops of maple syrup, gives a nice flavor twist to both. Whereas I'll probably never add either cinnamon or maple syrup to my Chicken Noodle Soup.

For me, the bitterness of the hops and the tang of the cheese just clash. So I usually just finish my beer after I'm done eating . However, with a porter, or even a helles, the sweetness would be a compliment. I don't drink soda but feel like it pairs better with pizza so a porter would work in the same way here I imagine.
