I've not tried Porter with Pizza (yet :astonished:) but I'd think it might go very well with something like a wood fired brick oven pizza that has meat toppings rather than all veggies on it.

Brew supply stores selling kits, calling a beer a german hefeweizen when it only has 40% wheat annoys the hell out of me. False advertising .. With that little wheat it is an american wheat beer at best, not a german weizen

Glad your not replying, but I can agree with all but one thing, I think quite a few new craft drinkers are more like lemmings, and are just doing what is hip and "in", and may become craft beer lovers after the fact, and of course whatever brings people to drink craft beer is good for craft beer.

Your soda comment here triggered a thought to help contribute to the controversial nature of this thread. Not Your Father's Root Beer is the best 'beer' to drink with pizza?

Personally, I don't like beer with any food. I find that I tend to drink beer and when my food comes I stop drinking beer and only start drinking it again when I've finished eating.

This really only applies to a proper plate of food. Appetizers, pretzels, charcuterie, and cheese boards don't apply.

Never had that, however I have very fond memories of our family going to a&w in the '60s and '70s, a frosty mug of root beer in the summer was fantastic, and so not you fathers may pair well with pizza.

Agreed on the point of just not drinking my beer until after eating, however, I think I like a cheese board as a dessert.

I think Dave is trying to make a controversial thread within a controversial thread.

Cheese should be after dessert and before brandy, son. Who taught you etiquette?

Ill obviously eat and drink, but I'll never eat while drinking something really great because food tends to ruin beer for me. For some reason, no matter what the food is, if I eat while I drink, the only thing I can taste in a beer is the alcohol.

To spin off of that, mine would be: having tried many of the world's top beers according to the myriad lists out there, I've thought only like 10-15% were truly worthy of the hype. Another 10-15% were bad, imbalanced, or otherwise not to my taste. The rest were good. No more, no less.

Stop chasing hype and rarity! It isn't worth it!

    Beer in food:

Never had a porter with pizza but maybe I'll try it one day.

However I've had pizza with cheap beer such as PBR, Budweiser, Labatt Blue, Gennessee Cream Ale, MGD, Molson, Moosehead, and Coors and have to say those go good as well as those beers with chicken wings

Porters and stouts I tend to like with a nice juicy steak. Dragon Milk especially goes good with a steak.

Chimmay Red goes well with chicken, especially spicy chicken

SN Torpedo goes well with fish

Sours go well with vinegerette salads

Sometimes a dunkel weizen can go well with dessert

IPA and stinky cheese go good too

And can't leave out Guiness and Bass with ruebens

But for the most part I like a beer for before and after a meal especially those that cost a pretty penny.

Reminds me of a time I was stuck at a fest filled with such people. Forget which brewery, but someone had brewed a beer and called it "the highest" or something like that, baiting these people in. But is was actually a session beer.

Sounds a bit like the old Shelton Brothers brand called High & Mighty Beer Co that was a tongue in cheek reaction to the excesses of craft beer. They focused on 5% beers (give or take) and gave them names like “Beer of the Gods” (listed here as a 4.5% blonde ale). They must have loved kicking the hornets’ nest (and for a good reason).
