If beers were music, trappist beers are Beethoven and IPAs are Justin Beiber.

It's stupid to swear off a brewery's beers just because they were purchased by InBev.

*****I didn't read through all the pages of this thread, so sorry if I'm repeating.

    Why?

Don't you like to pretend to be ethical, but be unsure of why you are?

Virtue signalling for virtue signalling's sake. It's like a movement searching desperately for a cause. We have enough of those in politics. We don't need them in craft brewing also.

I can't make the difference between two beers of the same style (stout, IPA). It's like they were the same quality and I have taste many of them. So what's the point of giving ratings...

Maybe CAD has crap beers? Do some sensory analysis. Get a book by Randy Mosher, "Appreciating beers. "

Until you realize they control a good part of the distro chain and prevent beers NOT carried by them to be forced off the shelves. Start there.

What do you call mixing a mediocre beer (Bud) with a slightly less mediocre beer (Blue Moon)? A "Blah and Bland". Bah dum bum.

And I suggested that I'm certain that you couldn't tell the difference between a grist with wheat in it and one without. What does wheat taste like, btw? How is it different than barley?

    From the BJCP guidelines

By German brewing tradition, at least 50% of the grist must be malted wheat, although some versions use up to 70%; the remainder is typically Pilsner malt.

Have you never tried different types of bread? Wheat certainly has a taste distinct from barley.

And this is exactly where the very smart independent retailers succeed in the market, depending, of course, on favorable demographics. By not having to knuckle under to the pressure of the "big" wholesalers, and by determining one's own product mix, a savvy retailer can garner a nice segment of consumers that have better than average income. I've seen this over and over and made a living by recognizing it, nurturing it, and describing it broadly.

All IPAs? Even SN's Torpedo? I figured that'd be more along the lines of Queen. Simple and classic, although neither has been around long in the grand scheme of music or beer.

NE IPAs are certainly *insert pop music reference here*

That's in its unfermented form. Fermented wheat and barley are indistinguishable, unless they are kilned differently, that is.

Beer styles weren't designed at all, they were just names brewers gave to their beer.
So the head Bass brewer once referred to the same beer as a Bitter, a Pale Ale and an IPA.
Many times exactly the same beer has been labelled as either a Stout or a Porter
