    Recommended glassware is backwards.

Snifters, tulips, Teku...etc. should be used for more subtle styles such as Pilsners, Kolsch, English milds/bitters...etc.

Mugs, nonic pints, Willibechers...etc. should be for IPAs and barrel-aged stouts, since their flavors are bolder and easier to detect.

For what it's worth, I put most of my beer in the "appropriate" glassware, but I've always found the usual set-up curious.

I respectfully believe that you are being far too selective with your example in order make your opening statement not look like an exaggeration or oversimplification.

Name games are played with bitter, pale ale and IPA because they are all pale ale. Name games are played with stout and porter because they are both words for porter today. Note that brewers don’t have a rich history of swapping the words porter and pale ale for the same beer. Why? Because those names weren’t arbitrary in relation to each other.

Styles have always existed even if those meanings and our relationships to them can change drastically. There are obviously different degrees of fluidity, but some “styles” were “designed.” Brewers don’t universally use whatever random label they want.
Your (humorous) notion actually isn’t compatable with marquis’ because brewers define, quantify, and categorize. Brewers’ actions can’t be foreign to brewers.

The correct glass style for any beer style is a goblet, specifically a Snörkel. Since I got one, I rarely use anything else. When your only tool is a hammer, everything is a nail.

That's right. I'm playing the middle game between those that have to define and those that insist on enjoying. I just plain like beer and don't muddle it with really important things, one way or the other.

What do you recommend for a plastic cup and “Yard of Beer” glass from a shitty corporate chain restaurant?

Do not overlook the fact that there were two separate brewing industries in the UK. There were brewers of Ales and brewers of Porters/Stouts.so it is hardly surprising that there is no history of switching names between them.
One casualty of lumping Ales and Porters together is Mild. I have been told that because Mild is generally dark many brewers add roasted grains. But they are brewing a Porter because the colour in Ales should derive from dark sugars. And Mild is an Ale.
To add confusion to styles there are Burton Ales and Burton ales. The latter are simply ales brewed in Burton. And Scottish ales are just those brewed in Scotland as opoosed to Scotch Ale which is a sub style.

Generally regarded in these parts as a Ladies' glass though in these politically correct sensitive days I must not say so.

Teku's suck. They are ugly, and a harsh, unimaginative rip-off of a tulip. Just a blunt, dull, unattractive, variant of an existent style. Hell, even the name "te-kyew' is harsh and unattractive. Tulips are smooth, round, comfy, and lovely.

Uh, you know that the sun does now set on the British Empire. Right? Y'all did not get to rule the globe by "suggesting" things, so, credit where it is due. But....

Well,we certainly did not rule by force because such force did not exist , perhaps suggestion is more effective than might be thought

Did you just refer a goblet as a Ladies' glass? I think not. That's what Bluto drinks from in Animal House as he pisses on Flounder and Pinto. It is also recommended as proper glassware for Belgian Trappist beers such as St. Bernard and Chimmay. Goblet has king/ruler appeal, thus manly and not womenly.

Water. Especially the Yard glass, since it holds a lot of volume, and you'll need to stay hydrated while drinking.

The top rated breweries ranking on Untappd is probably more accurate and informative than the top rated breweries ranking here on Beer Advocate.

Untappd has a Meadery in the #1 spot and a few others in the top 20 which is quite interesting and makes me want to try some from the best. Only tried 1-2 meads in my life and was only luke-warm on them. I could easily have said the same thing for craft beer when I first tried prior to joining beer advocate and could sort out the bad from the good.

@bbtkd: I have goblets (no Snörkel's though). I'm primarily IPA, and only the Spiegelau IPA glass does for me what your Snörkel does for you. When I was looking for glasses a couple of years ago, I read a Spiegelau reviewer state that the glasses were like a mini-shotgun burst of aromas. I totally agree.

I couldn't really recommend anything but BMC, but truthfully.. in a pinch, I'd rather have a plastic cup than a pint glass. Pint glasses are the bane of my beer drinking experience.

I didn't give this post a "like" because I want meads included on BeerAdvocate, but because for the first time ever I'm actually interested in what's listed as a "top brewery" on Untappd.

    You may be right.

With that said I've always felt beer ratings on BA are way more reliable and credible that beer ratings on Untappd, but you get alot more weighted volume on Untappd for new places and new beers.

Plus BA doesn't even have a "top 250 breweries" ranking based on the weighted avg. of all the breweries beers, so Untappd does have an edge on that (Bros.....maybe consider adding this?)

Untappd has a nice mix of old reliable top breweries (HF, Alchemist, Cantillon etc.), new hyped ones (Tree House, Side Project, Casey etc) new ones I've never heard of, and throw in a few meaderies. Not all just NEIPA makers either.
