Care to list a few? I'd rather not spend $12 a bomber on KS if I don't have to. Thanks!

If I did reviews I could give some pretty shitty local ratings.

Barleywines need at least 2-3 years on them before they are worth even opening.

Verticals are stupid (even though I still collect them).

Hazy IPA's usually taste better after a month in the fridge.

Pilsner Urquell is romanticized, except for maybe when it's fresh on tap, but the import packaged stuff is pretty meh.

What about fresh Urquell bottles? I also feel much of what is romanticized is about super fresh Pilsner Urquell from the source (especially the unfiltered unpasteurized version).

For what it's worth I love fresh bottles of Urquell. Haven't had the draft in awhile, but I recall liking it when I got fresher versions (I've definitely had a few drafts riddled with diacetyl in the past).

So hard to get fresh considering the distance it travels, but sure fresh, cold stored end to end would likely be much better.

Why are you contradicting your own argument that you can make a wheat beer with 100%pilsner with above quote.

Michael Jackson's Beer Hunter - Bavaria's best advice is -- try the Weiss

"Erdinger contracts with local farmers to grow some of its barley and all of its wheat, and provides them with seed.
ALL THE BARLEY IS OF TWO-ROW, SUMMER VARIETIES.
Two varieties of wheat are used. A double decoction mash is employed."

Maybe you should try some reading before telling others they are doing it wrong. Guessing you're just another troll who gets off on trying to get a rise out of others.

Wasn't part of their "freshness initiative" to ensure (as best they can) end to end cold storage? Along with brown bottles replacing the awful green ones.

"The new quality measures for Pilsner Urquell will be vitally important to the beer drinker's experience, addressing each of the "enemies" of beer.

    • Time: Express shipping dramatically reducing transit time.
    • Temperature: Temperature-controlled, refrigerated shipping from the brewery, slowing the beer's aging process.
    • Light: New fully enclosed secondary packaging, keeping light from striking the bottles."

Don't like a beer? Don't tell us about it as a reply in someone's thread, post a review about it. I miss the days here when we felt free to tell the non-review-posting complainers that.

Untappd is great to find out what beer is pouring where. The beer ratings? I always think they are given by people who think things like, "This wild ale sucks, it tastes like it might be infected."

Nobody's contradicting anything. Simply said that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference if you did. The added bonus was that it also points out that your insistence that Pils malt doesn't work well in hefeweizens is objectively incorrect.

No, I'm just a guy that insists that people actually read what I write and not what they think that I write before responding.

Also, just a tip, calling people names and suggesting that they "educate themselves" is infantile, at best, does absolutely nothing to further your argument, and shows that you are out of your depth.

    Untappd ratings translator:

3.80 for a pilsner = probably amazing, buy immediately.

3.80 for an IPA = you will die instantly if you drink this.

Aren't verticals a good way of being confident in your first statement (which you post so definitively)?

If you need callers for that hypothetical future beer podcast, there are a ton of guys on here that would enjoy shooting the shit about beer. Podcasting is super fun by the way, have done a few NBA basketball pods in my day.

Me and my buddies use Untappd all the time. I look up beers that my friends (who I trust) have tried...and see what their opinions are of it.

That's a pretty different scenario than trusting Untappd rating's as a whole.

I don't think Untappd is bad or evil or not worth while, but I don't give their overall ratings much weight in my decision to purchase a beer. Much less weight than I'd give an overall beer's rating on this site. It is fun to occasionally pop on and see what a friend thought about a beer, but otherwise I just rely on Untappd to show me where the good beer is being poured that weekend.

Crooked Stave IPA and DIPA, any RIIPA series beers from Melvin, Alpha Bits from Weldwerks. If not those than anything from Comrade. Oh, and Outer range also. For me their beer was on par with pipewerks hoppy offerings or even surly. I get how they would get hyped on a local level, but they're not as good as what I hype locally.

@EvenMoreJesus @Medarius alright I'm here to settle this! Love me a good Hefe, but I'll be the first to admit that I'm way out of my depth with this argument. Although I was always under the impression that there was supposed to be 50% or more wheat for it to be a hefeweizen. Homebrew an example of the wheat and one with 100% pils and send me some bottles. I'd be happy to do an unbiased side by side as now I'm genuinely curious to know for myself.

The average brewery owner is far less excited about beer than the average beer geek is.
