Hops are a plant. Trees are plants. Maybe you're on to something there.

    Can't argue with that.

    Fair enough.

With all that you've said so far, you shouldn't be surprised by this.

What if it's five minutes for a completely unhyped release?

Thus my "controversial beer opinion." I'm drinking an Orange Starfish right now, and as far as IPAs go it's probably in the 85th percentile for me, but I would SO much rather be drinking a barrel-aged imperial stout or a Westbrook Gose or something.

You should definitely go! Just like I'd recommend a European who likes New England style IPAs should come here to try that style fresh.

Have you ever tried a <2 week old light roast from a local roastery (assuming there's good ones in your area) prepared via a manual brewing method? Or a Bonavita automatic pour over or equivalent, but I prefer manual if the barista knows what they're doing.

I also don't ruin my GOOD coffee with milk or Splenda. But Starbucks? Sure, I'll toss a little something extra to combat the bitterness from that shitty automatic drip coffee maker and most likely old beans (ever seen how shiny their beans are, that means they're OLD).

It's akin to tossing a lime in a Corona. I would never add a lime to a well crafted German Pilsner...but to Corona? Hell yeah.

A good example of this in relation to aging beer, is that, if I recall correctly, Ken Grossman (founder of Sierra Nevada) enjoys Bigfoot fresh. While SierraNevadaBill (long time knowledgable Sierra Nevada rep who often posted on this forum) loved it at 5 years.

The other reason this is a good analogy, is that dark roasts and West Coast IPAs/bourbon barrel aged stouts (actually, any imperial stout really) will cover up flaws in the brewing process. Better than more subtle styles at least.

The thread on the morals of trading/secondary market inspired me to make a couple of purchases on the secondary market.

Beer with ghost peppers is not beer it is just funky tasting fire.

    Brown ales are unappreciated.

I appreciate Busch lite more these days, works well for poor man's bloody Mary's.

I find Green Flash Palate Wrecker to be far superior to Bell's Hopslam and I don't understand why people rush out to purchase Hopslam the moment it drops.

I also don't care if a smaller brewery gets bought out by a bigger one so long as the quality remains the same.

Here is a controversial opinion. I hate Radiohead. Just don't get them. Except for that Creep song which is really good.

I wasn't thrilled with it at first. What temperature have you had it? I found that I liked it much better at warmer temps (55-65). That said, there are other, similar beers that I like better.
Fresh Cut - Peak Organic's (hoppy pils, but seems IPA)
, & Non-Stop Hop Onslaught - Good Nature come to mind . The latter has some oats, so it doesn't feel like 4% .

Re "tree", I thought you meant Cannibis, i.e "dank".

I used to do that. Lost all my stuff in the (1st:rolling_eyes:) record flood of '06. Then got laid off. Never got around to replacing it. Maybe this year?
I find the interplay of microbes & their food , producing such a wide variety of end-product, very fascinating . Making a good, reproduceable, wild ale would be my ultimate goal. I did it by accident one time. Didn't understand it as well then. Probably was something on the sunflower petals. It was meant to be a light summer ale, with a hint of what a sunflower smells like. It wasn't 'til the 2nd winter that it was actually something worth drinking.:grin:

Oh God, that's nothing. It's stuff you'd pick up early on in beginning to enjoy great coffee. I know WAY less about coffee than I do beer, and I don't consider myself an expert in beer either (I've just enjoyed "good" beer longer than coffee).

You really start geeking out about coffee when you begin talking about espresso...

I bet IPAs are your favorite style too.

Hops cover a lot, imperial stouts can only utilize so much roasted malt before it goes sideways. Add in the difficulty that comes with fermenting huge beers and I think that there's less to hide behind in an imperial stout that an ipa.

Fremont BA Dark Star, Firestone Walker Parabola, Deschutes The Abyss, Bruery Black Tuesday, Deschutes Black Butte Anniversary, I could go on and on. These all benefit from again in my opinion. BCBS too, and many other's like it (2013 was superb last year, just starting to trail off now).

Always found Bigfoot and Narwhal to harsh off the line myself, both a little over hopped, but 1-2 years for Narwhal and 2-4 for Bigfoot and we're into the good stuff.

    Belgian monastery/trappist/trippel beer sucks.

I hate the flavor of the yeast used in these kind of beers.

Chimay, rochefort, westmalle, Grimbergen, affligem, leffe, karmeliet, duvel...
They all taste more or less the same flavor because of this shitty yeast.
