Haven’t had calusa since last Huna day and I thought it was close but not quite great. How does it compare to the other NE IPAs... from civil to trillium, other half etc (I’ll leave treehouse out of the conversation at the moment). I’d make the hour drive it it’s on par with trillium or even civil etc.

The brewery hadn't even been open for a year at the time of Huna day last year. I don't regularly drink treehouse or trillium but I would put calusa up there with Civil as some of the best hoppy brews in Florida. They have also been releasing barrel aged sours and stouts that are fantastic. I think there's a great value with ease of access and no line waiting (for now). I'd definitely recommend checking out their taproom if you get the chance.

Easily as good as Civil Society. I actually prefer Calusa’s NEIPAs over CS. I also would say Citronious, BIG, and Zero-Zero are all as good as Trillium/TH.

I think Calusa's IPAs are much better than Civil Society. Agree with jloomis that those three IPAs are incredible.

I had a Citronious BIG side by side with a Heady Topper (even though aren't the same style) and preferred the Citronious significantly. Not sure how old the HT was though.

I'll be the dissenting opinion and say that I think Civil's IPAs are playing in a completely different league than the stuff I've had from Calusa. Haven't had Citronious BIG but didn't feel Citronious was on the level of Fresh or Pulp. Also had Even Further and Focus. They're good beers, and I'd stop in if I was in the area or pick up cans if they were in distro. I wouldn't make an hour+ drive there regularly yet though like I would if I lived the same distance from Civil.

IMO, Heady is not nearly what it once was, I prefer Focal anyway. But the rest of the IPA market has just blown past Alchemist. Pair that with the new wave of NE style IPAs changing our palettes and the old classics almost taste malty in comparison.

I also think Calusa is better than Civil. Most of the stuff I've had from Civil is just way too hop bombed. I'll see checkins and reviews for stuff like Fresh having so much juice, and all I taste is a palate-buster level of hops and no additional flavors.

Calusa has hops, but the flavors shine through better. Zero Zero is coming out on Saturday, and I'm honestly looking forward to that more than 75% of the beer releases during TBBW (basically outside of Angry Chair and a few other things). It's my favorite DIPA by them.

They've also shown a really good ability to do barrel aged sours and stouts, as someone said earlier. It's kind of a bummer that people are starting to realize this. I got their last sour and had it on tap the day it came out. It was sold out completely a few days later. I miss the time when I could go a few weeks later and still get one of their sours.

If not the best hop beers in Florida it is only behind Civil.... They don't brew a bad beer; their BA sours and stouts are fantastic as well...

Zero-zero and Stormrage are their best IMO with BIG just behind

I'm hoping Angry Chair continues to dial in their IPAs. Most as of late have been really good. I'm sure Civil is to thank for that. Overall, Tampa Bay's hop options are improving and that makes me happy

Agree, obviously their rep is made with their stouts but I always enjoy their IPAs when visiting. Very solid.

Thought Process and Faithful Sinner have been some top notch IPAs...they should make them more often!

Geez I guess I'm going to have to bring down some treehouse and trillium during tbbw to relieve you all from your IPA woes and stout saturation.

If any has a 12-bottle ticket to Huna Day which they'd want to downgrade for either a 4-Bottle ticket or an 8-bottle ticket please PM me. I'd of course pay the $$ to get to the face value plus taxes and fees of about $410. I had a 12-bottle ticket in my CART last week which I thought I purchased, but according to Vendini they don't see a log of my purchase in the system.

Agree. It wasn't ornery but it was certainly lacking in any sort of useful detail aside from what time they were going to start slinging beer assuming the demand doesn't cause them to slide the opening time to the right. The wait and see game is kind of bullshit and doesn't do any of us that want to hit multiple places any favors. Their lack of transparency on what is dropping is contrary to what we are used to as well. They're also a little isolated over on St Pete compared to some of the other hot spots which makes them an out of the way destination. They're really setting themselves up to be the last stop of the day that people make.
