Ayinger Brau-Weisse... Honestly it blew the doors wide open and revealed a whole new world of beer for me. Before I tried that delicious nectar, beer was just a cheap disgusting liquid used for beer pong, or shotgunning to get drunk.

Heineken beer because it smelled like the stuff I was smoking.

In the mid 90’s some friends from college and I made a spontaneous trip from Michigan to Colorado for spring break. This was when I was introduced to Fat Tire. What a stark contrast from the Busch Light
and Milwaukee’s Best I was used to drinking.

I drank my weight in PBR. Still can. My love for the band red fang (they love PBR) made me drink it. Tattooed on my body is a sabertooth tiger skull. With a hole smashed between the eyes. Red fangs emblem but relevant because i also think of PBR along with it. So that tattoo symbolizes PBR to me in some way.

Bass Ale, when it was brewed in England. I drank a ton of them. Now it just tastes like sugar water to me. Honorable mentions- Guinness, Hoegaarden.

Gotta be Right Brain CEO stout for me. Was the first coffee beer I'd had and it really opened my eyes to the craft world. I still like it a lot, but it's a little thin for my current taste.

Well I'll be damned! I hit Total Wine at lunch and they had 2 dusty 6-pack bottles on the top shelf in a neglected refrigerator at the back of the store. Great price too ($5 and change) so I grabbed both of them!

I was going to wait until tonight but curiosity got the better of me so I popped the cap on one while they were still cold and drank it in the parking lot with some Taco Bell. Not bad. Not the flavor I remember. I'm glad I got to try them again.

In my teens I spent some time with that first lass, and I'm rather acquainted with the second, but I'm afraid I wouldn't recognize any of those other tarts if they flirted with me on the street.

Not sure if you’re aware of this but they changed the recipe a while back to the classic “Gusto” recipe from the 60s. The version you *may* have been more familiar with was discontinued around 2010/2011

There’s a few old threads on this subject

Paulaner Oktoberfest Marzen... Sure, I'd had the usual suspects, i.e. Bud, Coors Light, Mickeys, etc.. Never can say I actually enjoyed the beer though. That Marzen though... Wow... Floated my boat... Still does today... Love it and still buy a sixer when I can find it fresh... An honorable mention vote to Celebrator.... I drank my weight in those 2 beers and actually have a Celebrator in the fridge that I may open just for old times sake

Have you had Paulaner Oktoberfest Weisn Oktoberfest yet (the pale one)? It’s phenomenal. I relate to your post though, Paulaner Märzen is what helped me fall in love with the style. Cheers

Clown Shoes Undead Party Crasher. The primary reason I got into the craft scene during college. Less than a year later, I was filming a documentary on Heady Topper. Amazing how one beer can change your life.

The standard beer back in HS in the 1980s was Henry Weinhard's Private Reserve. We experimented with Euro imports and the one we adored most of all was Dortmunder Ritter Brau Bock, of course in green bottles, with a knight in saddle on the label. Alas it is no more.

I have been reading about this for the last few days. The beer I purchased today does not taste, to me at least, as if it was brewed with Cascade or another high alfa hop. The taste was definitely on the 2 row malt side, but with just a hint of that ricey finish similar to Budweiser. Of course my palate is mostly restored, as I've been a recovering hop head for about 3 years now . Actually, now that I've had a chance to pour one in a glass and salt it properly, I feel it's a bit closer to what I remember. Cheers brother

I have and I love it... Its virtually impossible to find locally.. I found it in the big cans with the mug a few years back but havent seen it since. Is that still how its sold or is it available in 6 packs now?

I don't doubt that tiny bit of salt makes quite a bit of difference. Some old timers in my dad's generation used to swear by it too .

As a kid I watched old timers dump salt in their beer. The pool hall in my home town had the small Miller bottles filled with salt. What's the salt do for the beer?
