Hell no, it doesn't. And if it does, fuck it, I'll just be pretentious I guess. :sunglasses:

They are that, but they were designed to be one half of a standard "Boston Cocktail Shaker" (thus the name itself, although glass manufacturer Libbey also calls them "mixers" for the same reason).
So they weren't even designed to be a drinking vessel one held in their hand (nor, contrary to some, were they designed by that obscure religious group known for their wooden furniture. )

Hold on, you're mad about me responding a bunch, but you're calling attention to it which will probably make me respond more? I'm confused.

A shaker Pint has never ruined any beer I've had from one. That said, if you aren't using a Shultz or Dooley mug 95% of the time, you are doing beer very wrong!

I've never understood the disdain for them. That said, I'm all for glasses with the volume marked on them and room enough for a decent head, so . . .

Really? In 55 years of beer drinking I haven't seen a single one. They would not be legal for trade as a pint is 20 ounces.

It's hard to say one way or another since I'm not familiar with Brew Dog, but would be interested in knowing the other 2 you drain poured. But drain pouring a beer? Yeah I kind've do consider you a douche for doing it.

I've had straight up disgusting beers myself. Some of these include: Maui Coconut Porter (club soda with a drop of coconut syrup), Rinkuskiai Lobster Lovers, Magic Hat Circus Boy, and Dark Horse Oktoberfest. Now maybe what you had is even more disgusting but not sure it could get much worse than say Lobster Lovers. But I'm sure if I were to consume these beers you drain poured I'm almost certain I'd find a way to finish it. In college I was able to finish my Natty and Old Milwaukee's and Colt 44 and so on that I don't think I'd ever drain pour because maybe I live by the motto "don't be a *****, be a man" and a man would never drain pour.

I have had beers that tastes like tobacco such as many imperial stouts do and find it enjoyable. I also had a J.W. Lee Harvest Sherry Cask aged 5 years that tasted like a bad ass Monte Cristo cigar. And I've had a beer such as Odd Side Peanut Butter Cup Stout that smelled like an ashtray but tasted like a Reeses Peanut Buttercup. So I get a beer tasting like cigarettes could be off putting but is it cigarettes or was it that licorice tobacco imperial stout flavor? If it's the latter I'd say you might just have to train your palate.

But yeah never have I ever come across a beer worth drain pouring and still say by doing it does make you a douche.

That's because you're in a place in which it is legally required that glassware has the volume marked on it. As it should be.

Ah, so not only am I a douche for not having the desire to finish something that makes me gag, I'm also a woman? Cool. Did not know that.

Ok, everywhere except Britain then. Hell, Omnipollos' own bar in Stockholm uses shaker pints...

Good to hear since I don't think anybody said the Shaker Pint had ruined a beer for them. Means you're not alone.

Well, suggesting it "needs to die" makes me think it might come close. I mean we usually reserve capitol punishment for the most heinous of crimes...

Well, since it was never intended by the maker to be used for drinking anything, the guy may have a point.

I'm assuming that "shaker pint" is roughly synonymous with "straight sided pint glass" like this:
    https://www.theakstons.co.uk/shop/#!/product/theakston-glass-1-pint
or the equivalent in smaller sizes. If not, and there's some different and far worse glass that I've never encountered then sure, kill it.

Nonics, on the other hand, actually are rubbish. All the negatives of a straight sided glass with none of the minimalist simplicity.

I should be clear that I bloody love drinking pretentious beer from pretentious glassware, and have been known to moan when I've sprung for a fancy DIPA and been given it in a nonic half glass or something. I just don't see any reason to get het up about straight sided glasses being used for relatively straightforward everyday beers.

Why the lack of love for nonics? They fit very nicely into my hand and hold beer very well.

Probably mostly personal prejudice, tbh - this is a controversial opinions thread after all.

I do find them aesthetically unsatisfying, though. Straight-nobble-straight. If I wanted a curvy pint glass I'd go for a tulip or something with a smoother curve to it.

I drink from a nonic most of the time unless it is a big beer or a dark beer.

There have always been straight-sided beer glasses of various volumes, in the US they were typically just called "shells". There is one in an US Repeal era photo featured in The Oxford Companion to Beer (next to mug):

AB's mid-'80s beer glass illustration (predating the near universal distribution of "shaker pints" in the US) also shows a number of different sized shells, none close to 16 oz.

The major difference of a "shaker pint" is the thickness of the glass, and the corresponding weight.

A quick sampling (sorry, can't find my electronic inch/metric calipers so these are all in thousandths of a inch, based on micrometer readings - so, given the slight curve of the glass not exact):

    Thickness:
    5 standard beer glasses - .065 -.085
    4 different shaker pints - .130 - .142

    Weight:
    .4l willi becher - 260 grams
    .5l willi becher - 330 grams
    shaker pint - 410 grams

The willi bechers' volume is based on where the marker is, nearly an inch below the rim. A "pint" shaker is 16 oz. to the rim.

Have you had Mama Mia Pizza Beer?

Sorry, I will not finish vomit in a glass so I can call myself a "man". Hell, I think it's make me more a drunk than a "man"-whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean- to finish something I really don't like...I spent the money whether I drink it or not and my liver will be happier, at least until I move on to something I actually like.
