Re Zima... no, you really wouldn't. Unless mlidly alcoholic flat Sprite is your jam.

Smirnoff Ice is preferable, but after 1.5 of these my stomach starts to eat the inside of itself from all the sugar and I lay prone on the floor til the pain goes away.

According to many BeerAdvocate people, this is for barbarians:

I really think part of the whole waiting in line experience for a beer release, is the people you meet in line. It makes time go by at a rapid rate, and is extremely fun. I really enjoy it personally, but I know how it seems ridiculous to some to wait hours on-end for a beer. For me, it is a great experience.

Fair enough. I won't disagree it has the potential for mass popularity (or, had mass popularity), Allagash White is popular with many people.

I just think it lacks what the New England style IPA has (in terms of an easy to like taste), and was never as popular. But, that may be a bit short-sighted, as @meefmoff mentioned, there's multiple factors contributing to the popularity of New England style IPAs beyond taste.

Isn't that technically a beer? Saying something is or isn't a "beer" is a slippery slope.

    You're not drinking beer?

I think you're vastly overestimating the popularity of NEIPAs "to the general public"- which is what I was responding to at first:
Celis was just brought up to confirm appeal to the more hardcore beer geeks as well as the general public, and to establish the chronology of how Coors was inspired to create Blue Moon in the first place. But my first response of Blue Moon was sufficient, imo, and I would venture that on its own it outsells all NEIPAs put together. And you're free to disparage its flavor, but the overall character is still decidedly Belgian in nature; and there's a much smaller gap between it and a more 'authentic' wit than there is between a Bud and a Czech Pils.

I hate nitro beers. I don't know if that's controversial, but I figured this was as good a place as any to say that.

    I find this thought...controversial!

If I'm not enjoying a beer, fuck it, let me have another. That makes me a douche?

@GuyFawkes @JamFuel I'm with you guys. There is too much great beer out there to force myself to choke down something unenjoyable. If it's substandard then down the drain it goes. I grew out of that frat mentality of needing to be the mostest manliest man some time ago.

"BROOO, I can't believe you just drainpoured! That's alcohol abuse bro. Choke it down you p***y! BACON FTW!!"

I'd rather be a giant douche than eat a turd sandwich any day.

I hate sour beers, but I love vinegar. I could drink a glass of white wine vinegar but I'd drain pour a Cantillion, Go figure. I also don't like funky Brett beers that tastes like fermented jock straps.

I think beer lines have filled the void created by the disappearance of the record store.

I wouldn’t say so. You bought the beer, do as you please. It’s meanr for your enjoyment. If you aren’t digging it, do as you please with it.

I'm torn on this. On one hand it's simply your opinion of the beer and you should rate accordingly. On the other, those ratings hurt otherwise well regarded beers in the style. Sours are a good example for me because it's not my favorite style but I keep trying some to try and develop a taste. In general I've rated lower than average but I've found sours I like more than others.

It's not much different than any style I do like. There are stouts or IPAs I like significantly more or less than the average.

Ooh.... Surly. I wouldn't put any of their pale ale offerings on the same level as TG, including Todd. Wish I could speak for the CO brews, but I can't.

Exactly. We are fortunate enough to get to CHOOSE what we drink. Why waste that privilege on something nasty because "I paid for it, so I have to drink it", or the tiresome "Don't be a *****" attitude. You're honestly saying ***** is weak? Really?
