Hey all, I am going to be in a few places the week of November 11th if anybody would like to join me out or have any recommendations. First, any good breweries other than the normal Vermont breweries I should visit?? November 12th-Worcester, MA will be at the Armsby Abbey--traveling from Warwick, RI to Boston and then to here. November 13th-traveling all over New Hampshire, basically every town there. Eating and drinking at Moat Mt BBQ in North Conway that evening(unless someone recommends better) November 14th-my happy place Burlington, VT-planning on the Farmhouse Tap room and hitting other places in town too. Maybe Vermont Brew Pub too. Of course hitting HF and Alchemist. November 15th-from Burlington to......Some place south of Albany in NY state. I hear great things about Peekskill and Newburgh Brewing. Any other suggestions?? Looking for any and all help that can be provided and of course if you live in an area I am spending the night, lets have a couple beers together!! Thanks All!!
i like Burlington a lot too, but I might drive to Waterbury in the evening and stay overnight there. i enjoy drinking in the Waterbury Pubs a lot more than the Burlington Pubs.
I don't think you'll do better than Moat Mountain BBQ for dinner in that area--glad to hear it's on the list. Not sure exactly where else you'll be in New Hampshire, but there are a few new breweries opening up on the Seacoast that you might want to check out, in addition to the mainstays like Portsmouth Brewery and Smuttynose. If you're in the Manchester area, you could visit White Birch--they do tastings all the time and tours some days--as well as some of the bars in the city... I'd recommend River Road Tavern (actually in Bedford), Firefly and Strange Brew. Also, about 20 minutes south in Nashua is Martha's Exchange, which is one of the best brewpubs in the state. You could also hit Milly's in Manchester, but I think Martha's is more consistently good. And of course, if you have time while you're in Boston, you shouldn't miss the Cambridge Brewing Company. Sounds like a whirlwind tour.. have fun!
passing through from warwick to boston a quick side trip about 15 minutes out of the way is granite liquors in weymouth a great selection in my opinion best in the state
Hit up Julios in Westboro Ma if you're looking for some bottles it's about 20 minutes from Armsby Abbey.
if you at all are passing through southern Connecticut, i'd make a stop at NEBCO, growler fills and great beer convo...CHEERS
Going from Worcester to NH you could easily drive up to Portsmouth for lunch there then keep heading north for a night in No. Conway. Moat is probably the best bang for your buck in the valley in terms of good food AND good beer. Next day, Rt. 302 is a nice drive through Crawford Notch over to 93N. You should easily be able to get to HF right when they open at 12. From there you can head over to Waterbury, but I myself wouldn't want to go much further from there. Between Prohibition Pig and Blackback pub, you'll find enough on tap that you'll be in no shape to drive.
If you do Peekskill hit Peekskill Brewery and Birdsall house. Captain Lawrence would be about 25 minutes or so away
Going from Burlington to NY, are you taking a ferry or driving down? If heading south, you should stop by Fiddlehead (on route 7 in Shelburne). Then if you're heading through Middlebury (depends if you take 7 or 7A) there's Otter Creek and Drop-In. A few more in Burlington area to consider: Switchback, Magic Hat, Zero Gravity (at American Flatbread across street from VPB). Although, it sounds like you won't have a lot of free time, so I'd just recommend adding in a quick stop at Fiddlehead on your drive from Burlington to NY. It's right on the side of Route 7, so it won't take up much time. You could also squeeze Magic Hat and Switchback in on your drive south too. They are both fairly close to Route 7 (few blocks away from Route 7, one minute at most off main road). VTbeer map
Any idea of the names of those new NH breweries? Last time up I went to strange brew and met a fellow BA there for some beers. Haven't been to cambridge yet though.....will be going thanks.
Blue Lobster is a new brewery in Hampton. Haven't been yet, but I've heard good things. Their head brewer apprenticed at White Birch and Hill Farmstead. I believe they're opening their taproom November 8, so you should just make it. It sounds like you'll miss Earth Eagle, though, which is opening in Portsmouth November 17, I believe. You might be able to find Great Rhythm's pale ale around town by the time you visit, but not totally sure. And in the Manchester area, I forgot to mention Candia Road Brewing Company (might be doing business as Nepenthe Ales, I believe). Their Shire Stout and Solo Springer were incredibly good, and I've heard very good things about the Lotus Eater, but haven't been able to try it yet.
