The common knowledge is it's cherry coffee. The only bad stout I've ever had from them was a couple years ago's Monday bottle, which was cherry vanilla. So not super enthusiastic about this one.

Cycle already stated last week all but one bottle would be $30. Therefore a $30 price point on the F/O bottle isn’t crazy. Cycle isn’t trying to rip anyone off lol.

Why do you need so many bottles if you drink alone?

And it was that long ago we all would be lining up for a shot at just one bottle of BA Maple Huna. especially at that price point. How far we've come indeed.

    Lmao, that's hilarious!!

I'm just not interested in driving 65 miles each way and taking time off work for 2 bottles.. Time is $$$ and my time is way too valuable

Am i reading it right that the FO was not barrel aged? Normally it says barrel aged right on the labels. Anyone know?

So do you just expect them to shit out another rare/world class beer by Friday then? They'd also have to miracle a new label through TTB or use something already approved.

No. $35 is the ceiling they have set so far for the cost of a BA bottle. it's not uncommon for them to only sell them for $30 though and some sell for less like Dos of Hazard which I think was only $25. The retail price of the beer is tied to the costs of production which includes the cost of the adjuncts. More adjuncts and more expensive adjuncts will drive a higher retail price. Since they also deal in cash only when the line is busy I'm sure they also favor working in something ending in a zero or a five.

No but i expect them to give the option of a full refund of $100 in exchange for not attending the event and no bottle. They aren’t losing money based on the fact that a handful of people would exercise this option and the leftover kegs are all being placed on tap anyways at the brewery which will all kick fast. Hell they’ll probable make money because they’ll actually charge for those pours. In no way shape or form do i expect secondary anything but they’re crazy if the don’t think hype doesn’t fuel their business at all. I know of people who worked out deals where a guy paid $100 for the whole ticket in exchange for just the bottle and the guy who waited in line would attend the event for free. I don’t expect cycle to give a rats ass about that but if they’re not upholding their end then it is completely understandable to expect a full refund as an option.

    a. Anybody willing to pay $100 for a single bottle of beer is an idiot.
    b. You paid for a ticket to a beer festival with an included bottle and not a bottle with an included beer festival.
    c. These two items can have different values associated with them to reach the complete cost of the ticket. Calling it an all or nothing type thing is a false dilemma.

Maybe you should reach out to them and see what they will do for you instead of airing your complaints in an online forum.

I would love it if they offered all ticket holders the following:
    a. $30/$35 refund for the bottle portion of the ticket price
    b. for those who are stubborn and refuse the refund, give them a crowler of fixie or something silly. They'll have satisfied their "contractual agreement" of a beerfest and a beer.

Maybe you didn’t read the part where I said it wasn’t me, simply stated I know of a number of people who worked out some sort of an agreement like this or this exact agreement. There are plenty of idiots out there willing to pay $100 for a beer when it will almost certainly cost more elsewhere for them to try it.

Doug has always been beyond reproach when it comes to being more than fair when
Issues have arisen in the past.

My guess(strictly a guess) is that he’ll offer the refund options mentioned for those so inclined, or perhaps offer a special substitute future bottle for those willing to wait if the FO bottle indeed has issues. Give Cycle a chance to sort it out, he’s always been more than fair.

Does kind of suck if those labels above are the real ones. I would expect the F/O bottle to be barrel aged. Not that it was promised or anything but seems like it should be.

I think this is interesting, even if things were fine people would be pissed about this bottle not being barrel aged.

The situation sucks, but I agree with Johnyb, cycle will figure out a solution.

I’ve never paid $100 for a bottle of beer, but I know people do and travel for said events, but sometimes you take a chance and it doesn’t work out, that’s life.

I find it funny reading all these threads that the term “collectible” has become the new “friendly” term for over priced secondary beer and the people that mule for it. Beer is a drink that should be consumed for enjoyment. Cheers!

I never said that I was “pissed” about the bottle not being barrel aged. Slightly disappointed would be a better term. I bought the BA Day ticket to drink awesome beer with some buddies that I haven’t hung out with in a while. The bottle and glass are nice gestures but based on the past couple years the bottle has been something unique. Cherry Coffee Imperial Stout just seems like an afterthought to me.

For what it’s worth, I have never and will never participate in the secondary beer market so no need to lump people into that group because we have an opinion on something.

Really hope that Doug and crew don’t end up having to dump all the bottles from this week. They had some very cool things lined up.

Although I'm not sure if it was intentional as a result of the secondary market's interest in past F/O bottles (secondary being a popular target of Doug's), it's an interesting concept having the least interesting beer (and non-BA to boot) of the week on Friday. I'm sure the F/O bottle will be very good and I'd love to try it, but maybe if there's less interest in that bottle each BA Day Cycle will end up with more people who actually want to attend the festival than people buying BA Day tickets just to flip the bottle. Maybe instead make the #superwhalezbro 1pp bottle Tuesday or Wednesday which would also be a nice nod to the locals who support them all year and can grab a bottle before the masses fly in.
