Using a hick town like Front Royal as your base and using it as the barometer of the VA beer scene is laughable.

Which other brewery's hazy IPAs did you try? I personally enjoy Culmination's and Ex Novo's about as much as GN's on average. It's all subjective though, and a lot of the NW hazy IPAs tend to be kind of a cross between NE and NW IPAs, so it might be different than what you're expecting.

Baerlic, and it was pretty "meh." I also hit de Garde, Cascade and HOTD, but obviously no hazy ipa's there.

Unfortunately, I was in town just 3.5 days and it was for work and I didn't have a car except for the rental to the Coast on my day off...

So what you're saying is that you have two breweries making the kind of beer you like? And you have to drive to get to them? Hm.

And if I lived in Oregon, world capital of tweakers and tent living, I'd likely have to drive to another state to achieve that.

sounds like you didnt try all that many and really have no idea what you are talking about based on your post. next time you're in town, come by my drug infested tent by the river and Ill make sure to have our finest hazy IPAs ready for you.

PS - I have had Aslin hazy IPAs many times (havent had Veil) and they have all been very tasty. But with minimal effort, you can find comparable product in Portland. Me thinks you made a snap judgement based on trying 3 breweries? Havent had the Baerlic hazy IPA and honestly I think most would consider them an "ok" brewery, but not a place I would point somebody who only had 2-3 days in Portland.

I actually just popped my head into Baerlic because I was walking to Beermongers and Apex. Please don't think I went out of my way to go there!

For my *next* Portland trip, what Portland breweries would you recommend in terms of having a plentiful supply of really good hazy IPA in cans or growlers that I can take home in my suitcase?

    Yes.

Strange take. Sounds like you really enjoyed your trip here.

Did they have those hazy IPA's plentifully available to go in a can? And again, which breweries?

And to be honest, I'm not really used to seeing so many sketchy f'd up looking white people.

I agree with you regarding what you said about GN and MT hazy brews compared to the rest of Portland breweries (surprise, surprise) and am also interested in other breweries in Portland who are cranking out hazy brews on the same level and as often as Veil and Aslin. Not so much for the haze, but The Answer and Triple Crossing are also a couple of nice bonus spots to have available in VA.

Interesting tactic to disparage us, then ask us for help and advice. Does that usually work for you?

You win, OR beer is clearly inferior to VA beer, and it only took you 3.5 days to figure it out.

For the record, as a Virginian, I was the first disparaged. I was only returning fire.

And I never said that OR beer was clearly inferior to VA beer, you said that. I just said I was spoiled to have such easily available hazy IPA's in cans and growlers to take home (when that appeared to not be the case in Portland.)

I think Triple Crossing and the Answer both fly a little under the radar, but agree that both put out excellent stuff. But I best be careful about saying anything too positive about Virginia beer in a PNW forum, lest I be mocked.

Say whatever positive things you want, about Virginia beer or anything else. Keep the shit about tweakers, tent living, and sketchy f'ed up looking white people to yourself. I'm quite sure all of those things occur in Virginia too, but I'm not going to go to the South-Atlantic forum to tell you about it or talk about how two breweries in OR make beer that I can't get in VA in the style and format of my choosing based on a single short stay. Ah shit, you got me; now I'm riled up and making a bigger deal out of this than it should be. Enjoy your beer, I'll enjoy mine.

I'll just never understand why people ever think it is a good idea to wander into another region's forum, shit all over their beer, and tell everyone why the breweries are so much better back in their home state...

Very much looking forward to my maiden voyage to GN next week. Sounds like to-go options are somewhat limited, but there is usually plenty on tap?

Um are you one of those fake news people? Because I didn't "shit all over" anything. I simply said I was spoiled to have such easily accessible take home cans of hazy IPA available in my home state, and that didn't seem to be the case in Portland.

And though that flippant comment wasn't meant as criticism, what if it was? Are you folks so insecure that you can't even accept criticism? What do you do in real life when your spouse or your boss criticizes you?

I did drink some great beer while I was in Oregon. Great Notion, Modern Times, Cascade, and de Garde were all amazing. If they want to come and open breweries in VA, I'll patronize them as often as possible!

Nobody from PDX wants to hear you tell them how much better you have it in VA, I can promise you. They definitely don't want to hear about how your think their city is full of "tweakers" and "tent living"
