Man I do love this beer. Had it during Thanksgiving time and had the family try it. It was a hit.

I've thought about this quite a bit. Back around the turn of the century, long before I was much of a beer drinker, I had the opportunity to try some Alaskan Smoked Porter that was given to me by a missionary I worked with in Aniak. It was quite a departure from anything I had tried up to that point. The first time I tried Even More Jesus, it was like scales fell from my eyes and I finally understood what beer could be. The first IPA I ever tried was Fresh Squeezed, and I was hooked. But I guess the first beer I actually loved was PseudoSue. I didn't fully appreciate it at the time, but to me it just seemed like the perfect beer. It was very flavorful like nothing I'd ever tried before. Every sip demanded another. I still feel the same way about it to this day, and that includes all of the DDH variants.

I'll still try to track down Zombie Dust whenever I'm in Indiana, though.

I think my first "wow I really like this" beer was Elysian's The Immortal IPA. I haven't had it in a while having fallen into the trap of often wanting to try something new but that beer started me on the path of craft beer and incredible deliciousness.

I should go pick one up.

Aventinus still my favorite beer of all time. Their are others that are up there, but this would be a must even if I gave up all others, a whole other animal, like liquid candy & a helluva creeper.

Citrus Mistress from Hop Valley was a real game changer to me. I drank a lot of beer prior to that but something about that beer I've never forgotten. Unfortunately it was not readily available to me but it got me exploring other beers for sure.

I had the no 1 bottling of the Private Reserve when I lived in California in the 70s. It's gone now, locally .

Dortmunder Ritter Brau! A staple back then. Prost!

Mid 90's in my adopted hometown of Anchorage. I'd been enjoying different beers (different than like, Bud Light and Bud Ice) for a while and lived right down the road from a c-store that touted "over 80 different beers!" so I was always up for something new, but I ended up getting stuck on one beer for like a long, long while -Pete's Wicked Strawberry Blonde

Sure, by today's standards it would draw very little attention outside of tickers, but at the time it really hit the spot. I was working 2nd shift for a good chunk of my Pete's time and as a result I would typically pick up a sixer and a DiGiorno pretty much every night after work. Pete's was there when I took an ill advised dose of NyQuil and a six pack, which led to a heart rate of like 8........ It was there while I watched the best non Penguins hockey game ever, it was when the Wings and Avs had that huge brawl with Vernon and Roy going at it at center ice..... pretty much a nightly friend.

I think I last had one in like 2008 when I found a what was likely a well out of date sixer in some eclectic grocery store in La Plata, Maryland. I know that last one was a contract beer, but it was nice to relive the beer once again.

Great post. The first beer I fell in love with was at Mellow Mushroom in Athens, GA and it was a Left Hand Milk Stout. Haven't looked back since.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding that last comment, but every Pete's branded beer ever sold was contract-brewed. Mid-90s was around the time they moved from brewing at the short-lived Minnesota Brewing Co. (a Heileman spin-off at the former Schmidt brewery in St. Paul) to several Stroh-owned breweries around the country. (Stroh also owned a small portion ~10% - of the company after that). Pete's was the second largest "craft" brand at the time - 347.8k bbl in 1995, second only to BBC's 948k bbl.
