Pretty sure they’ll view it as a rousing success when they count the cash register. As for me I’m having a great time and can’t wait to get back Saturday for Huna Day.

Who made 3 sons tap takeover last night? How was it?

I was there. Beers were good of course. BA Scoop much better than regular double scoop.

Ditto on the above. I thought CCB did a pretty good job with this given the crowd and the 3 sons beers lasted about 2 1/2 hours. There was plenty of space inside to move around. Beers were all good.

TBBW is obviously great for the breweries. I was talking about the beer geeks who were waiting in lines that were hundreds of people deep and pissing off everyone in the neighborhood. Personally, I decided to skip the nonsense and just go to Total Wines to buy bottles of CBS. (There was no line.)

I will be the third to agree with the thoughts above. The double scoop was a major letdown to me. It was strawberry dominant and I just don't care for berry stouts. The BA version however was excellent and to me lived up to the hype. I disagree about how CCB handled the tap takeover and the bottle release. Both lines were incredibly slow. And for someone who was in line extremely early (first 30) it was disappointing to get sample size pours for $7 a pop. I was however able to sample Maple Massacre and Hug Hug Kiss Kiss from friends. The Maple was decent not great IMO but the HHKK was incredible. That beer had a super thick body.

100% agree on the bottle release...the problem there started with the price. You have to have a round number that includes tax. Those bottles would have sold at $20 a pop and $16 as an EL cat discount. Instead they made it very difficult from the get go..$16.04. Bottle releases with lines need a cash only protocol and those waiting for credit need a separate line like AC. CCB has been out of the hype game for a while so I think they didn't consider this.

3 sons- I think $7 for the size pour is actually what I'd expect given some of the other events I've gone to. I had some pours at Hawthorne where I paid $9.50 for a 12oz (maybe) Civil IPA. The Pour house AC tap take over were $10 pours. The line may have been slow, but it was fair, in the sense that it wasn't at the bar where random selection happens by the bartender. I agree on BA scoop, it's a far cry from Cycle OG Scooop.

I had all of them. I know someone associated with 3 Sons that let us try everything. HHKK is great and arguable better than BA Scoop.

CCB is always slow but at least they had 3-4 people taking cards. If they switched to cash only it would help but you just have to expect long lines with them.

I agree with CCB being out of the "hype game". They clearly were not prepared, but the $0.04 was just plain ignorant.

    Dunno about Everyone ...

As far as skipping those certain places with long lines.... You mean ac. That's your choice to skip that but to not try to visit the wealth of other places that had releases/special taps that could be had to go/etc.. only to go to total instead.. You kind of cheated yourself. Imo.

Could you give a few examples? I'm in from out of town (visiting family) and haven't seen many events that are worthwhile, besides the hype monsters (3 Sons, Voodoo, etc.) with huge waits. This is actually the root of the problem, imo. If there was truly a wealth of releases/events all over town, there wouldn't be such a focus on the one or two hyped events each day. We have seen this exact phenomenon play out over the last 5-10 years of DC Beer Week and Savor. Now there are a ton of great events with rarities and the lines are typically non-existent.

It seems like TBBW has boiled down to a waiting-in-lines fest, and I have no interest in that. Huna Day is bad enough - at least there you have a ton of great options with no wait.

How did CCB handle kicking everyone out at 530 and then getting back in? Did the people who got kicked out get to enter first or did they have to get in the line that was already formed outside?

There are tons of events on TBBW website and advertised on the brewery facebook pages. It's just that the majority of people pursued the hyped beer pours. No idea what the turnout was at Coppertail for the Hardywood tap takeover, but that was a decent item running up against some of the things like Voodoo and they had space. Arkane, Hidden Springs had releases and tappings, trivia etc. There is Foeder for thought, plenty of lesser known places as well having stuff. Rapp has a release tonight I think

I meant events that are worth going to on the basis of the beer selection. Not exactly getting excited about trivia night. For instance, Coppertail caught my eye with Pipeworks and Half Acre tonight, but it doesn't look like they brought much of anything good. I'm not going out of my way for Daisy Cutter. This mediocrity seems to be the norm this year except for a small handful of events which creates out of control demand in tiny spaces.

Maybe I'm just spoiled with all the top-notch events and great out-of-market stuff we get in DC.

They had a last call at 4:30ish I believe and then started slowly telling everyone to go outside.
