1:30 check in supposedly. Still haven’t moved at 1:50. Wonder if anyone will even get checked in at 2.

Westly out. If you were one of the first 50 in you got westly 3-4 times before it was all out at 2:20

Lines aren’t too bad. Easily can try everything but westly. Cycle/ jesterking/veil/ side project had a long line but everything else was fine.

Just returned from the anniversary party and had a pretty good time! The most frustrating part was waiting 40ish minutes to get into the venue after the go live time.

Once inside the lines were manageable and the beers were pretty damn good. My favorites:

Anchorage: A Deal with the Devil: My GF picked this one up and I was hesitant because I'm usually not a barleywine fan but damnnnnnn this was good! Stupidly drinkable and so tasty.

    Cycle: Festival/Only:
Great cherry/BA stout blend. Reminded me of JtR but with cherries. Really good!

Other Half: DDH Double Mosaic Dream: This was the best IPA of the day for me. Such a great representation of the mosaic hop profile. Loved it!

Tired Hands: Coffee Vanilla only Void: Awesome coffee/vanilla balance. I had 3 pours, great beer!

Monkish: LAX 2 JFK & Smarter than Spock: Both were great but really most all Monkish beers were awesome. I hung out in the right side of the tasting room (close to the restrooms) and was able to get pours as quickly as I could drink them.

Tons of other awesome beers on tap but those are the ones that stick out. Also got a 4 pack on the way out, teku, pin, glasses, and some free food. Totally worth the price point imo

I complained about the taplist before hand, but it was a good festival. Both cycle beers were great as was deal with the devil. Sorry I feel bad for the folks who didn’t get Westly, but Family Whistle was better imo. Getting the 4 pack was a nice surprise.

I am planning on visiting monkish on a Friday a couple weeks from now. Any suggestions for when to get there, or what to expect? Myself and people who will accompany me have never been, so any helpful tips are appreciated. I understand going on a Friday will mean More people, but we are thinking of being there for opening time. Cheers!

If there isn’t a can release it will be fine. Maybe 5-10 people there at opening. It is only crazy on can release days.

Have to say this was one of the more disappointing party/events that I have been to. I had some very high quality beers, met some friendly people, but I expected better from the event overall. Some feedback if anyone from Monkish is reading:

    - if you’re going to charge $95 a ticket, you should be able to hire enough staff to check people in efficiently. Arrived at 1:45pm and didn’t get into the event until 2:45pm, effectively reducing the amount of time in the event by 18%. That sucked. I would have gotten there earlier if not expressly told through communications to not line up early since they had an early check-in system.

    - by the time I got into the event, many beers were already gone (Westly, Extra Vanilla Milkshake) which I understand, but I think the theme of the day was that there was way too little beer for the amount of people there. I could be wrong, but it seemed by about 4pm at least 2/3 of the beers (maybe 80% if the guest taps) were completely tapped.

    - the grouping of beers, particularly having one line for all the Monkish offerings, lead to long lines and inefficiency. While there were empty stations everywhere, the whole party at the end was being funneled into the tasting room. It took 15-20 to get a pour, which is frankly unacceptable for the price paid.

    - Please attend the Bruery Anniversary party in May to see how these events can be run correctly. They rent out a venue, have a tap truck, more space for more stations, and have food included in the ticket cost. They spend more money to ensure a more pleasant event, and are able to handle more breweries and more people with meal tickets for everyone at a much cheaper cost than this event.

    - another frustrating thing was that there were beers that only were getting tapped after another tapped out. When these beers didn’t tap out, we then didn’t get access to beers we were excited for. Considering how many completely tapped out stations there were pretty early on in the festival, some of these kegs should have been moved.

    - You need more restrooms. Two trips at different times in the party took a combined 30min or wait time. Yikes.

    - my girlfriend was allowed into the tap room for one final pour at 5:45pm. I was cut out, which was disappointing again considering I’d been in line for 20min, and standing next to her, but I understand the need to not violate your license. What I didn’t understand is how my gf was waiting for her pour and got to the front to be told they had to stop (was not near 6pm yet) after she witnessed another person get a pour at the same time. When she questioned why the other person got a pour, the reply was “well, that person is my friend”. That left a bad taste in our mouths as we were leaving.

    - gifting the four pack was a nice touch at the end, and in essence lowered the ticket price by $24 or so. That said, this is easily the priciest ticket, especially by volume I consumed. The last hour and a half was pretty much a sobering stand in the rain waiting for a single pour every 15min or so.

I leave this feedback not to trash Monkish and the people who worked hard yesterday. I’m sure the elements caused problems and for the most part people drank beer and were happy. I hope this gets passed on and read and that at anniversary party 7 we can all have a little better experience.

Ok that makes sense. I’ll keep a close eye on their Instagram to make sure it isn’t a can release day. Thanks for the response.

I saw the email said "no reason to line up before 1pm" but I laughed it off and showed up around 12:45pm. Line was maybe 40-50 deep by then. Guy behind me was annoyed that people kept showing up and joining their friends who were already in line, but I explained to him that this was due to the policy of +1s having to enter at the same time as their ticket buyer. That didn't bother me, though. I get it.

Got in very shortly after 2pm. Got Westly. Got SPON. Got virtually ever beer I wanted to get. New beers kept appearing left and right even up until the end.

Expected it to be A LOT more crowded. Turns out there is plenty of space with zero cars in that lot. Lots of familiar, friendly faces everywhere.

Bathroom lines got long for a while but that's usually the case everywhere.

It rained, but that didn't dampen my experience one bit. Great event. Great time.

As soon as I saw that the SARA stuff was bottle pours I knew that people were going to get shut out. If they had an early check in at 1:30 a line of 100+ would have just formed at SARA, which would have been awful. Though the slow check in process meant people early in the line were able to keep looping and drink 4+ pours of it. That was my only real complaint, but like anything, you come out of it with lessons learned and try and improve them the next go around.

Overall I had a great time and would definitely attend again. The cans at the end were a nice surprise as well.

Anyone have any clue if the Pug pins and/or stickers from today will go up online anywhere? I want a few of those very badly!

About the only thing I *didn't* like was restroom lines. None of the lines were terrible (though I didn't get any Westy) because we were all there to just enjoy the drinks. Talked to a bunch of people, made some fun line friends, etc.

Could it have been run better? Probably. But, I ain't complaining too much.

Oh, one other thing to complain about. I was frozen. But, I was dumb trying to be "super-light" with just a T-shirt and a waterproof jacket. Shoulda packed some insulation, but didn't think temps would just nosedive.

My favorite of the day? PROBABLY "Festival Only" from Cycle. Or Holy Mountain's "Three Fates". Jackie-O's had some really good shit too.

Loved the crowd following Henry when they started popping Cantillon Kriek. Loved seeing Otis and Bean. Also loved the delicious Mas Juteux. Too bad it was too cold for the slushies (for myself), they were tasty too.
