Unfortunately, I don't really have much information on it.

Those Adidas shoes were just an over the top marketing ploy. I have been to Oktoberfest five times and the crowds are extremely well behaved considering there is close to 350,000 people on the grounds on any given day and drinking goes from 10:00 am to 11:30 pm. You should really go as there is nothing like it in the Beer World. Finally the crowds are at least 75% native German with the balance of the crowd being tourists.

Besides the wise crackers in this thread let me tell you that the oktoberfest has a long history on this site. In fact I think you will find a general humm of excitement around that month from most of the people on this thread and then all kinds of kvetching and kibbitzing about which Ofest or Okto is the best this year. it's a terrific style and a classic bit of enjoyment here on BA! In addition we will all look forward to sierra nevadas newest collaboration and please note that last year there were a couple more besides SN.

Agreed to all, but I think the OP was asking about the history of the original festival, not the beer.

My wife and I are planning a trip to Oktoberfest this year for our 10th anniversary. Can’t wait!

Starting to research everything on line and hunting down tent reservations

If you haven't been there yet, spend some time in the Europe forum to research tips, etc. If you don't find enough info, start a new thread. As you might imagine there have been many BA members attend the fest, and a wealth of experience is at your fingertips.

The price of shoes like this is beyond a joke. It appears that even the top of the range sneakers/trainers cost no more than a few dollars to produce, the high prices people pay is mark up and snob appeal.€200 shoes carry a €175 vanity tax.

I resent that remark, I am no where near to being a snob, beer or otherwise!

This year on the light rail home the lady next to me was barfing in her purse while my friend was talking some girl out of an alcohol induced moment of psychosis.

    Medical professional is he?

I saw my share of stumblers and passed out over-imbibers at the Fest, but the majority of people I sat in the tents with had it together (locals as well as travelers).
First and last Oktoberfest, I'd bet.
