What in your opinion wasn't accurate?

Yes macros matter. But its relevance is pertinent to body composition and health markers (which agreed, are VERY inportant). But the weight loss in and of itself is accurately predicted by CI vs CO.

Calories in vs calories out is quite definitive and absolute. However, you are right in that there more to calculating that equation than simply calories consumed vs basal metabolic rate.

See the below for a primer on the cofactors of CI vs CO.

Firstly, that fasted cardio burns more calories, or even more adipose, and increases your metabolism more so than non-fasted cardio. That's a myth. As is the burning more calories digesting certain types of food bit.

No way. Those dudes ask questions like "how can I get drunk outside of my cheat day?" or "What's the alcohol with the lowest caloric content?"

"Vodka" is the usual response. I just picture some jacked dudes eating unseasoned chicken and washing it down with vodka. :flushed:

I lurked on some fitness boards, but didn't find much enjoyment there. I prefer to set up a few goals every year, train hard for those, and enjoy beer in the meantime. Each to their own though.

Here's some research on the cardio bit: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25429252

If you have some to the contrary, I'd love to see it.

As far as the burning more calories with certain foods statement, I was objecting more to the phraseology than anything else. Foods all have a different rate of assimilation depending on their complexity. You can't simplify that by saying entire groups of foods have a higher or lower caloric tax. The Glycemic Index is a good example in reference to carbohydrates and the same can be applied to proteins and fats.

I don't think that lot is very fun at parties.

As some others have said here, I've been Intermittent Fasting for a couple of months now while restricting almost all alcohol consumption (paired with HIIT workouts 5x week). I'm trying to get down to my target weight and then I'll see how regular beers work into it.

Bottom line: You may have to limit the beer for a bit. Don't worry though...they're not gonna stop making it!!

I started my journey about 2 years ago and have never drastically cut beer except for a week here or there. I did a 90 day challenge in which I was doing about 2000 calories a day: .25 carbs and around .5 protein and .25 fats. Was not nearly enough carbs to gain muscle but I went from 195lb to 175 and went from 20% bodyfat to 9.5%. One cheat meal every 4 days and about 5 beers a week, so hell yea you can do it drinking 1 beer every 2 days! You just have to be near perfect around it, not just cutting calories, need to eat foods that speed your metabolism and do plenty of cardio, stair machine is great! And yes alcohol slows metabolism. When you cut that craft out, it hits you harder when you do drink it.

I use the Lose It app to track calories. I've lost 20 lbs. in the last 3.5 months, and beer is still a very big part of my life.

Kick ass, dude! Keep up the good work.

My friend uses MyFitnessPal and is able to get it to show a daily break down of macro nutrients, which is a neat way to get a snapshot from day to day. I don't track calories too closely usually, but I'll use the app from time to time in case I'm feeling off in my training. Helps me take a snapshot of my diet and see what I can alter, or what I'm missing in my day-to-day, and week-to-week.

Glycemic Index measures foods in isolation while in a fasted state. It is not a example of anything other than eating single sources of carbs by themselves after fasting. Anything else eaten changes the GI of a food rendering it useless when you look at how any normal person actually eats.

I recommend cutting out drinking during the work week. I did this and was amazed how much those calories add up when you have a beer or two every single night. Not to mention my tolerance has gone down, so now I'm usually content with 2-3 beers in a setting and not as tempted to grab another bottle or two. Those are more calories saved.

While I would certainly agree with you, that's not the reason that I cited it. On top of that, knowing (the approximate) Glycemic Index of the foods you eat will give you a general idea of how quickly the sugar in any meal will enter your bloodstream.

Thanks! Having an office job doesn't give me a lot of chance for exercise, so I am just trying to establish the calorie baseline that's sustainable. Being 6'2" 220 lbs. wasn't like, a major problem, but I just didn't feel good in my clothes. 200 lbs. is much more palatable. Slowly creeping towards 190.

Cheers to you still. Losing weight is losing weight, unless you're losing weight and unhealthily skinny. I work in an office now and run every day. Prior to my starting full time, I never ran or did any exercise when I was interning (although I was a competitive athlete before that). I could feel myself degrading, especially with beer consumption. So when I started full time, I also started running full time. It's become a good routine now.

Not if you eat it with protein and fat, like how everyone actually eats foods. That was the point .

I know, it seems like that makes sense but in reality you can enjoy beer if you do all of the other stuff right. Right means regular exercise, knowing when to say no to junk food, and eating healthy foods 80% of the time. Veggies, fruits, lean proteins and some whole grains. If any of those are out of whack or you cheat too much.... for me it'd be packed onto my belly area quick!
