I probably would have picked up some Mobius yesterday had it not been in crowlers. Would've liked to try it.

What's wrong with the crowlers? Dhop8 cans were sold out so it was nice to be able take some home. The only downside I saw is that they don't date their crowlers, which is annoying.

    Size - 32oz of non-resealable beer.
Cost - The Mobius was $12, equating to a $24 four pack of Porter. I think the other beers they had available were in the $14 range.

The pricing on There and Back Again is pretty good, though. The 750ml/25.4 oz bottles were $15. The crowlers cost less and you get more volume.

Are the crowlers pre-filled? If so, I could understand if people would rather they just put that beer into cans.

Yes. The crowlers are large, unwieldy, sealed cans. As someone else has pointed out 32 ounces is quite a bit for a single individual. If I'm sharing a crowler is fine but if not, not so much.

If I recall correctly dhop8 was $14 and Mobius was $12. These are high prices but not prohibitive. 16 ounce 4-packs would make the lineup more attractive to myself and I'm sure quite a few other folks, but I'm not standing around on a Saturday morning stuffing my face with brisket and drinking beer in a parking lot, especially when it's cold and windy.

I know what crowlers are, my point was that if they're pre-filled, they may as well just can that beer.

They have crowlers so people have more choices when they visit the brewery, as the cans frequently sell out. The crowlers are pre-filled before the brewery sales begin so there are no additional delays for the line.

Instead of crowlering the beer why not package more or all of it in 16 ounce cans.

For one, they are making better margins on the crowlers. From a consumer perspective, cans are ideal. I'm pretty sure they own their own canning line, too.

I'm sure all three of these sentences are accurate. I'm not going to compare their prices or their packaging to truly elite breweries because it wouldn't be fair. This is a relatively new brewery. Hopefully they continue to improve.

If you are not a fan of the Crowlers, there is a solution. Don't buy them. No on is going to make you buy them.

Do they have their own canning line, or use a mobile service?

They have their own canning and bottling line. For the stout that they just released in crowlers they had said that there wasn't enough brewed to warrant a canning run and that the bottling was only for sours so they didn't want to risk infecting the stout. They apparently ordered a second canner.
