I was at my dad's for card night and had no snifters available. I'd rather use the bottle than some oversized soda pop glass or a jelly jar haha. It was actually realy good out of the bottle. It's almost like they made the bottle as a drinking vessel and not just for storage

While I would say this is the exception and not the rule, it is probably the most puzzling part of the craft beer culture, to me

LOL. That's funny. I've drank a few 3 Floyds beers out of hotel coffee cups or plastic dixie cups.

If you were at your dad's and you decided to drink the beer out of the bottle because there wasn't a snifter and you didn't want to use a normal drinking glass then that actually doesn't sound particularly "non-snobby" to tell you the truth.

This article reminds me of phone calls from my mother and her telling me things like "Don't forget to eat." I always sarcastically respond, "Thanks mom, if you didn't tell me, I probably would have forgotten to do that."

Sometimes people act like they need to be reminded about the obvious.

    From the article:
I have no idea why some craft geeks can't relate this. They can relate to it with most things in life but somehow beer is treated differently. When you eat broccoli, do you examine every nuance of it every time and debate about the year-to-year variation endlessly? When you buy shampoo, do you obsessively read reviews on every option in the store and then ask the clerk which stock is newest? Nobody treats every item that they consume with an intense level of scrutiny, and nobody here would want to be judged harshly because of what their shampoo choice says about them.

I realize that I live under a rock, but I'm still scratching my head about how I missed this so-called wheat wine fad.

A jelly jar is actually my preferred BBA stout glass. Seems to always pour a good head and warms nicely in the hand. Fantastic glassware. I bet if Goose Island put out a bunch of jelly jars with BCBS printed on the side there would be people arguing that that is the preferred glass to drink it from and knock people who used a snifter (or bottle).

That's in about every hobby, commodity, and even other areas of life. Classified documents, for example. The US alone generates millions/yr.( A recent-ish thing) When we peasants finally get a look(& I have looked , often randomly), the overwhelming majority are the equivalent to Aunt Edith's shopping list. The CLASSIFIED seems ~= "I'm in the club, & you're not."
Broccoli? I (& others) do. 'Course, it's been in the service of growing the best varieties (plants), so the customers will come back next year, to me/us, for more.
I'm still scratching. That doesn't even sound good. "Wheat" & "Wine" just don't seem like they go together. (& I never ran across any to try.)

My go-to bottle shop got in a couple bottles of Boulevard Harvest Dance a while back. Amazing stuff. I'd liken it to a witbier on steroids. What could possibly go wrong?

Well, they will 'remind' you that this is a beer message board so....

Ah, I am with you here. Sometimes a beer is just a beer!!

Does this remind you of an old SNL skit with Dan Aykroyd and Laraine Newman?

    Cheers!

Haha, fair enough. You caught me. I swear I'm not a snobby snob though. I just enjoy what I like, no pushing. My first year of craft beer was enjoyed out of a freezable plastic mug, my snobbiness has grown since (thanks in no small part to this website and you fine people )

To comment on the article...I’m kinda confused as to what I just read. What was the author really trying to say? That it was freeing for the former “craft” beer drinker to buy a case of Miller Lite?

That was one muddled over written, over thought piece about, nothing, really. His interview choices sound like recovering drug addicts. Jesus, hyperbole anyone?

"Call it the natural evolution of an explorer. Typically, craft drinkers are the types of people who like to discover things. "

This comment from the article really resonated with me and probably the vast majority of beer advocates that have come to enjoy the hobby aspect of craft beer. Alot of it (or most of it), is about hearing about and then the excitement of exploring uncharted territory. Whether be it a beer in store, a local brewery, a city destination etc. At some point you've explored nearly all of it and there is nothing much new to get excited about, then you move into the next chapter (whatever that is). For many, after sampling thousands of beers from nearly every style, it might be finally being able to kick back with some friends with an AAL, and actually enjoy it for what it is, and not fret that your missing out on a special craft beer you haven't tried.

NOBODY believes they are a snob. NOBODY believes they are in the 50% of the population who's IQ falls below the median. NOBODY believes themselves to be bad drivers. So WHERE do all these snobby, bad driving dumbasses COME FROM? And you can't go on FaceBook, Twiltter or Instagram without stumbling over them! A question for the ages.

Agreed - the only wide release I can think of is Smuttynose Wheatwine, which obviously was not a big seller. I've drank a few bottles- its too hot when fresh but ages well.

Founders Nemisis 2009 was a wheatwine and was also boozy as hell in a bad way - so that one sticks in my mind as well.
