Out of a tasting with over 60 pumpkin beers two months ago Pumking was ranked one of the lowest and non favorable beers. Also most of the people there are pumpkin beer nerds like myself. I have been drinking pumpkin beers for well over 15 years now and Pumking does not even come close to a grade A pumpkin beer in my opinion. I could care less what beer ratings say.

I hated the 2011 Pumpking. Drain pour. Boy did I regret buying so many bottles last year.

But my brother loved the stuff. He drank a few bottles at last years Thanksgiving dinner and brought the remainders home with him.

After last year's experience I just couldn't bring myself to try the 2012 batch.

I save a bottle for thanksgiving to drink with pumpkin pie. If you like pairing food and beer this is one I suggest you try, it's not that they compliment each other and bring some mystifying flavor. Its the fact that its so damn similar it blows your mind.

After three pages of discussion, I stand behind my original statement that this is a pretty polarizing beer.

I thought the 2011 had some really off notes in it....kinda vomity. This years was damn near perfect.

ST PumKing through a Randell of Vanilla and Cinnamon with pumpkin pie spice sugar rim. This was Fing Awesome? Had a second without the whipped cream and it was even better.

I totally agree. I thought The Fear was excellent this year. Toasty, burnt flavors with good pumpkin/spices. It is not a pumpkin pie beer lover's beer however.

I tried a spiceless pumpkin beer at Elysian's Great Pumpkin Beer Fest last week. Tasted like beer. And I am highly skeptical of those people who say they can taste the pumpkin flavor in beer. I think pumpkin enhances the mouthfeel but not the flavor of the beer.

And also count me as one who thinks Pumking is a foul concoction. Super sweet with an imitation vanilla flavor this is again just foul.

If you folks think Pumking tastes like pumpkin pie, I have to wonder if you have ever really had good pumpkin pie? This beer is HORRID. Schlafly and Whole Hog are more like real pumpkin pie. Maybe its a regional thing and the pumpkin pie in the South tastes different. I don't know.

I don't hate it, but I had it on cask a couple of weeks ago, and it was awesome!

The pumpking is the only beer from Southern tier I will drink. Everything else is overly too sweet. Way too damn sweet. Pumpking still seems sweet but something about it that keeps making me want moar.

Agreed. I'll never understand the pumking love. It tastes like artificial candy corn. Nothing like pumpkin pie.

You could simply have left it at "No, sir, I don't like it."

Thanks bro. You just gave Southern Tier the idea for their next beer.

I actually liked last years better than this year. This years seems less of a pumpkin spice taste and way more graham cracker crust taste. It's still a great pumpkin beer, but far from the best.
