I typically just stop in for growler fills on the way to pick up my son from gymnastics. It is super easy in and out there.

I have not seen "White Labs" mentioned since its opening. I have had fun in there sampling their beer styles brewed with varied yeasts. Who knew yeast could be so interesting (No never brewed). Anyway. Should be on a list of places to hit in Asheville.

    Frankenthread...

    White labs is dope.

Heading up to asheville in march and other than sunny point, I got no idea about west asheville. Is there enough within walking distance to each other to make hanging out over there for a full night worth it? Like 2-3 bars and a good restaurant?

If you're at Sunny Point, you should definitely hit up Whale Collective. Other than the kinda overselling name, they do have a really solid tap and bottle list. King Daddy's Chicken and Waffle is solid. Archetype Brewing is over there as well and worth the visit. Might also want to check into UpCountry. I haven't been there since they changed the name from Altamont (after an ownership change), so no idea if they're decent or not. My guy says no, but probably worth checking out anyway. The other place I've heard good things about over there but haven't made it to is The Beer Pump.

2 or 3 good bars and 1 good restaurant? Sounds like you're describing Hickory.

How long is Wicked Weed’s Black Angel usually on the shelf at the brewery?

Normal Black Angel sees distro, so I'd assume its at the brewery for quite a while. Chocolate Covered Black Angel or Angel of Darkness (which I've heard people call Black Angel by mistake before) are a different story.

Visiting Asheville for the first time next week. I've read a bunch of threads and plan to basically wander around the south slope and hit some of the noob first timer spots listed in these threads. Have reservations at Curate, which seems to be well liked here.
Any recommendations on specific bottles I should look for to take home? I imagine stopping at the shops will elicit a ton of good options I haven't had, and was wondering if anyone had any "don't miss" things for purchasing.

Just about any fresh cans from Burial are a must hit. If you can find Turtles on Pterodactyls from Birdsong, grab at least a 4 pack. I think its one of, if not the best, ba adjunct stout in the state. Its flying under the radar bc previous years have been average. Definitely go by Appalachian Vintner as they have the best selection on Asheville. Plan to spend some drinking time there too because they always have the best curated tap list in town.

How are the sours from Hi-Wire? And how do they age because I'm sure some of have been on the shelves at my TW for awhile.

Don't wander the south slope, just go to Burial and be done with it.

Buy a bottle of every Olde Hickory Imperial Stout.

    Avoid wicked weed.

I always vote Zambra over Curate just for the lack of fussiness. Also it always seemed to be a dollar less per plate for equally good food. I also dig that if feels like you're in a cave.

Alright resident curmudgeon, simmer down!

As a first timer to Asheville, you gotta at least hit some of the other places on South Slope. If you're at Burial, you might as well hit Green Man, both Dirty Jack's as well as the Green Mansion (next door to each other) to understand what Green Man used to be and what it is now (or some kind of Schrodinger's brewery where its both to everyone). And some of the other places are cool to hit to. As someone coming to town for the first time, I'd even suggest hitting one of the two Wicked Weed spots, just to understand the angst.

As for Hi-Wire's sours... To me, they're the best thing they have. That's not a very high bar personally. They at least are marginally better than the last brewery in that space (Craggie if anyone remembers them), but that's not saying much either. I've been fairly happy with their sours, I think they probably hold up fairly well in the bottle, and to be honest, I've probably liked them better out of the bottle than on draft, even for the same beer.

I agree on the better from the bottle than on draft as far as the Hi-Wire sours go - I also think that are pretty tasty.

I'm also heading to Asheville for the first time this weekend, so this thread is perfect. Wondering if there is a good spot to watch march madness that would also have a good tap list. Also, any good recs for a brunch spot on Sunday? Thanks!

I am sure some places (Wicked Weed, Asheville Pizza on Coxe, the W.A.L.K) will have the game on, but Asheville lacks a "sports bar" with a good tap list.

Are the TVs at Wicked Weed at the upstairs bar of the pub? That's the only place I could picture them having TVs, but I don't remember them having them. Been a while since I've been over there though.

My only other suggestion is I think the Green Mansion has some TV that might have the game on. Agreed though that Asheville doesn't really have a sports bar. Closest might be Bier Garden or Pack's Tavern (I know Bier Garden has TVs, pretty sure Pack's Tavern does as well), but can't really vouch for the beer list at either one.
