I handle disappointing beers by avoiding them. Research helps.

    Lindeman's Faro Lambic.

It was the only example of a Faro I could find, so I bought a bottle to try out. I was looking forward to opening it but what I didn't realize until opening it was that at that time Lindeman's was using an artificial sweetener (which does not just taste sweet to me) in some of their beers.

Traded for Pliny the Elder & Heady Topper a couple years ago. They could have been old but it pretty much killed my enthusiasm for trading.
Biggest reoccurring disappointment is the bottom of the glass....

I tried it in July of 2016 in the middle of IPA season. I did note it was a good beer, just not a 'Tenacious D Mind Exploding' beer.

Funny. I thought Pliny the Elder would be exceptional based on research. I found it was good, just not exceptional. A disappointment in its own way.

I have found it to be a really refined and elegant beer for the style- in my mind that's it's 'thing'.

I was in a beer club a year ago and got a bottle of Zombie Dust, man I thought I had hit the lottery. It was average to me, a big let down.

I think many would call that disappointing.

DFH Wood Aged Bitches Brew. I'd had it raved up by lots of people who know my tastes and I found it just ok.

In Defense of ZD I can't think of a beer that deteriorates more rapidly in quality than it does..really needs to be drank Uber Fresh to see how good it is/can be

Prairie Bomb that I traded for. It turns out I don't need an amp that goes to 11. I go so far and no further, evidently. Ah, but even then, it was one of a series of bottled in that trade and I really enjoyed the others. And I can't say it wasn't worth trying, it was SO worth trying. ... I'm putting aside times of going to a place and finding it unexpectedly closed or with nothing for sale and me driving so not ready for on-site drinking -- we've all been there.

Edit: Nothing against the trading partner, BTW! Perfectly executed in-person swap.

Great topic OP. By no means a whale and probably a fairly local thing, but Great Lakes Christmas Ale has always been a huge disappointment to me, going back 12 years or so.

A barley wine that tastes like a pale adjunct lager? I gotta try this. (I'm being serious). There was a worst beers thread a while back and I used that thread as a shopping list rather than an avoid list. This thread will have the same function for me (and not because I want something "bad"). Can't wait.

Two Hearted blew me away the first time I had it. It’s one of my all time beers that greatly lived up to the hype and exceeded my expectations. I remember when and where I was when I first had it. When freshly bottled it gives me the same feeling today.

Do you keep trying the same beer over and over again although it's always a huge disappointment? I would think that after a while, it's no longer a disappointment and enters into the realm of "as expected."
